Getting a Taste of Icelandic Cuisine in New York City

And good morning, everyone. Welcome back to wake up a cheddar and wake up a chatter and I'm Hanna Doba and our very own channel Lanier is at a restaurant in New York City, getting a taste of some Icelandic cuisine. It sounds good. Shannon. That's right. You, you know, I got my spoons ready. You know what that means? I'm here. Of course, N Y C because we are talking this week all about the taste of Ireland. Uh Excuse me, not I Iceland. That's gotta get the place right. A taste of Ireland. I did it again. Chef, I can't get it right. It's too early in the morning, but you're gonna help because we have some amazing here stuff here for a taste of Iceland festival. There we go. And we're gonna be talking about that all week and you guys have some special things happening here. Of course, N Y C. So chef ARN first of all, tell me what the taste of Iceland Cultural Festival is. It's a festival bringing Icelandic culture to the North American market. So we're showcasing the best we have. So we have a food pop up here. We are showcasing art literature, uh at music all over the city for four days. Wow. And you guys are gonna have some special pricing and four course meal here available for people as well. Right. Yes, we have a four course prefix menu for uh $149 I believe. Ok. Now a lot of people might be thinking why a taste of Iceland here in New York City? Is there any relevance to that? Well, we're trying to get people interested in our, in our country and, and our culture. So we're bringing a little taste of Iceland to them because it's such an accessible place. It's a direct flight from here for it's a five hour flight. And how cold does it get there? Just you know, cold? Ok. I'm glad you came here then. So this is much better and you have some uh traditional food here and we talked about this earlier. This is not really yogurt, but this is a lot better. Why is this better? And what's it called? So this is skid and what makes it better is it's uh non fat, low in sugar and the very high end protein. Oh, we like that. And so what is this? We're gonna put some stuff on top. You said Sprinkle some of this on top. OK? And then this is actually licorice. So is licorice. Uh you know, one of those staples. Yes, Iceland people, they love liquorice, just drip it all around like that. That looks pretty. And then would you say this is more of a dessert? Yeah, this is the dessert we will be serving here and then this is what are we putting on top? This is a, so it's like an ice cream. Yes. And then you put all that in there and you serve it like this a nice dessert but it healthy with protein. No fat. Mm This is amazing. But let's talk about this because I know cod is a big staple in Iceland. Ok. So what are we making here? So here we're gonna be making the, we'll also be serving here at the of course. So we have a smoked mashed potato. Oh Smoke, mashed potatoes. Yeah. Yeah. It's on the car. So you had to do this part and it's a lot more fancy. Look at that sprinkling the garnish and everything. A little seasoning. This is good and this is one of the meals you guys will be having here tonight, right? Yes, we will. Ok. Well, I'm gonna go ahead and taste this cod and you guys need to come check this out. Of course, N Y C because we are mixing things up and we're gonna stay out here when we come back. We're gonna be talking to one of the biggest DJ s in Iceland. Also a pretty professional mixologist. Don't worry, I'll get the cocktail mom. All right.
