There's a dearth of research to back up the abundance of miraculous health claims tied to CBD ー but that won't stop celebrities from endorsing it.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a component of cannabis or hemp with little to no psychotropic effects. It is purported to have an array of applications to treat everything from epilepsy to anxiety, pain, depression, and sleeplessness. When Congress and President Trump signed the latest version of the Farm Bill into effect, they also legalized hemp, and thereby CBD derived from hemp.

Of course, there's one big catch: the FDA has not approved CBD as "safe or effective," so it is technically illegal to use as a food additive or dietary supplement. That little hitch has led to crackdowns on edible CBD in several states, like New York. But the wellness trend has still managed to pick up some serious steam ー and with it, celebrity endorsements.

Here are just a few of the celebrities who are speaking up about the benefits of CBD:

Lamar Odom: Lamar Odom is the latest celeb-entrepreneur to tie himself to the CBD wellness trend. TMZ reported he will be announcing a line of CBD vape pens at the Tobacco Plus Expo. The former NBA star has credited marijuana and CBD with helping him through recovery after a near fatal overdose in 2015 left him clinging to life.

“While going through rehab, I discovered certain strains that support wellness," Odom told The Blast in 2018 about his line of THC and CBD products.

Gigi Hadid Supermodel and influencer Gigi Hadid also recently spoke out in support of CBD. In an interview with Elle, she opened up about her family's health struggles as well as her own. To deal with her Hashimotos thyroiditis, an autoimmune thyroid disorder, she said she sought out holistic treatment, including CBD.

"You can make a life for yourself in ways that won’t hurt your body," Hadid told Elle.

Martha Stewart Martha Stewart, a woman whose name is synonymous with domestic bliss, told the Charlotte Business Journal she is looking to develop a CBD oil makeup line and would like to partner with a company for on skin and animal care products. In a 2018 interview with the Hollywood Reporter, she suggested her friend and marijuana advocate Snoop Dogg first introduced her to the substance after she injured her toe.

"I must tell you, my toe got better within two days. The nail never even turned black or fell off. I think it all had to do with this fantastic ointment that he gave me," she told the Hollywood Reporter.

Mandy Moore "This is Us" star Mandy Moore loves CBD ー on her feet. In 2018, just hours before the Golden Globes, Moore told Coveteur she was planning to use CBD balm from Lord Jones on her feet.

"This year I’m trying some CBD oil on my feet, which my stylist recommended," Moore told Coveteur. "So it could be a really exciting evening! I could be floating this year."

The high-end CBD products brand has an elite following that includes celebs like Amy Schumer, Olivia Wilde, and Busy Phillips.

Alessandra Ambrosio The secret to model Alessandra Ambrosio's well-rested glow is probably genetics, but it might also be CBD. She told Well + Good in 2017 she leans on the stuff to help her get a good night's sleep before the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

"The most important thing to do is to sleep eight hours the night before,” Ambrosio told Well+ Good. “It’s hard because the mind gets anxious, so I try CBD oil and I think it helps.”
