Kids From Minority, Low-Income Groups More Likely to Contract Covid-19
The coronavirus may not discriminate based on color, religion, or economic status, but minorities are contracting the virus in disproportionate numbers across the country. According to a study out of The Official Journal of American Academy of Pediatrics, COVID-19 rates are significantly higher among minority children and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Out of 1,000 participants, the study found that 7.3% of white children tested positive for coronavirus, in contrast to 30% of Black children and 46% of Hispanic children. Dr. Monika Goyal of Children's National Hospital authored the report and joined Wake Up With Cheddar to break down the findings.
