Twitter to Charge $20 a Month for Blue Check Verification

there is also a growing pressure within twitter to perform and perform rapidly or face termination musk's first big project with the platform is to start charging $20 a month to anyone with the blue verification checkmark according to the verge, the team creating the revamped twitter blue subscription service has been told that they will be fired if they don't reach the november 7th launch date desired by musk twitter's verified users will lose their check marks in 90 days if they don't subscribe to the new twitter blue after it launches. I know that this is a really important initiative for musk, you know, obviously he, in his tweet to advertise, he was emphasizing that he still wants advertising to be a big part of the platform, but he's also really trying to ratchet up the subscription component of twitter as well to sort of accomplish some of these aims that he wants with the platform, which you know, could be a lot of different things. We're speculating it could be potentially web three uh sort of a platform. Obviously it's going to be a space for free speech as he has indicated in the past, but you know, I think it's 4 99 now for twitter blue, it's gonna be ratcheting up to $20 a month. I'm really interested to see how many people at actually make this transition, Same when I saw this news, by the way, kudos to Alex heath at the verge for breaking this story yesterday. Yes, yes, exactly. Um I'm with you Chloe, I don't, I know this is a first world problem to have you and I both having the blue checkmark. I don't know necessarily that I would pay $20 a month to keep that and I think that there are a lot of people out there as well that are probably in that same boat out there, that view, twitter sort of this great free service that you've always had for free for a long period of time, why would you pay for it? So this seems like sort of a weird sort of process that Elon musk in a way to get revenue that you're basically alienating advertisers for, to make up for it by charging people something that was what twitter blew right now is what $4 a month right now charging it at $20 a month. I just don't know that there's a market there for that, but you're also seeing tons of people already fleeing the platform. Shonda Rhimes tweeted over the weekend that she has now left the platform. There's the other Hollywood producers who have also left it as well. And so I wonder if you start alienating people already with the platform, if you already start to lose the user base. Yeah, baker and we're of course seeing advertisers pull out at least temporarily for now. You know, citing similar concerns as these folks who are leaving the platform. I'm also curious what this means for the verification process. Are people going to basically be able to pay to get this check mark in that case, that undervalues the value of the check mark in the first place. So obviously something to watch. And I'm with you baker, you know, I'm not heavy enough twitter user to be paying $20 a month for my checkmark. Same. Same.
