How 5G is Changing and Advancing Healthcare

Joining us now to discuss educator and a T and T. Health tech influencer Glenn Gilmore, thank you for being here. How is five G. Technology changing patient care in hospitals and also in medical centers. Five G is giving patients and medical providers critical information in near real time. And with that new real time information, we're able to have new innovations through the use of connected medical devices which can alert physicians to a medical event before it becomes a medical emergency. It's also letting doctors innovate and collaborate through the use of augmented reality virtual reality and even meeting in the metaverse, it's giving patients more opportunities to use telemedicine which provides more flexible, efficient medical care. So it sounds like the future is here. When you mentioned connected medical devices augmented reality virtual reality you even threw in the metaverse. What else does a smart hospital look like? And what is the potential here? A smart hospital understands that for example, five G. That that super fast internet is really an enabler. When I say an enabler, it means that it can take technology, artificial intelligence connected devices to automate a lot of processes that are otherwise the strain on staff attention and time. And so when you free up some of that attention time of the medical staff, it makes medical care far more personalized. So that's really the wonder of technology in health tech is that it makes it more personalized. It sounds like there are so many benefits here. I hate to be the wet blanket. But are there any risks when it comes to 5G technology working in tandem with our healthcare specifically, I think of things like artificial intelligence. Well certainly we have to be careful to make sure that that the technologies we're using are reliable are are secure and are patient people focused and very often when we talk about digital transformation and technology, people get so excited about the technology that they lose the focus that it has to be about benefiting people. And that's where partnerships become so important to make sure that focus stays on the patient and stays on efficiency. Yeah. And sticking with those benefits and the proficiency, ease of the tech transformation in healthcare. Can you talk about a few more of those? I think the biggest thing that you've mentioned here when it comes to health care has been prevention. Sure. A T and T for example, has has a great example of how hospitals can use five G that super fast internet and artificial intelligence to prevent falls and in hospitals falls are a common, terrible occurrence. And with the use of artificial intelligence it can alert hospital staff if a patient is doing something that makes it likely that they're going to fall and alert that staff so that they can prevent that fall from from occurring. And there are many instances in which the use of connected medical devices wearables can alert physicians to an incident. That is a cue that that a medical emergency could occur and take that action before it does occur. Glenn, what should health care leaders and professionals be doing right now to stay ahead of the tech curve in their fields, healthcare professionals need to connect with partners like A T and T that are really focusing technology on patients on patient outcomes so that as they look at cutting edge technologies, they can make sure that things like artificial intelligence have a ethical basis and a uh, secure foundational basis. Uh, so that the information and the technology is reliable. They can also pay attention of course the cheddar news and others that that are sharing the latest technology so that they can seize that technology, leverage that technology but deal with partners who understand that it has to be efficient. It has to be secure. Yes, absolutely. And last question here, how can tech improve the future of the patient experience? Tech can improve the future of the patient experience by making it more efficient by making it more secure by making it more flexible and by tapping into cutting edge technology that gives us hope for, for far better, more personalized medical care.
