What an Iranian-American CEO at Uber Means for Silicon Valley
Stanford University professor Behnam Tabrizi discusses Uber reportedly hiring Expedia's Iranian-American CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, and what his position at such a high-profile company means for diversity in Silicon Valley. Should Uber have hired a woman as so many were hoping, and what are the presumptive replacement's top priorities as the top exec at the ride-sharing giant? Tabrizi notes that it is important Khosrowshahi speaks to people during his first 90 days, whether it be former CEO Travis Kalanick, employees, drivers, or customers. And when it comes to making the environment more welcoming to women, an advisory council of female leaders may be of benefit. Tabrizi adds that Khosrowshahi, at only 48 years old, is considerably younger than other candidates that were being considered for the job, and that youth is on his side.
