How Driver-Assist Technology is Keeping Roads Safe

13 car accidents happened every minute here in the US. So car safety could not be more important. China News, senior reporter Michelle Castillo shows us how technology is trying to keep us safer on the road. We're only human and sometimes we need a little assistance when driving. 90 plus percent of all accidents are the result of human error. So it's either inattention or just something that the driver is doing where they're not paying 100% attention to what they should automated safety features aid with that. For example, Toyota safety senses includes six options like automatically breaking if something is in the way the pre collision with pedestrian detection utilizes the millimeter wave radar in the front of the vehicle as well as the camera system to detect objects ahead if you're curious about what it looks like. So I'm looking around, wow, what a beautiful city. This place is amazing. Boom. Just like that. Other features include high beams that turn on and off. If cars are nearby, a new feature called proactive driving assist or P D uses the camera and radar to adjust your driving. Having the car take over may be jolting, but it's meant to help. The first time I felt that steering wheel move by itself. I was a little bit kind of, I didn't know what to think of it, but when you try the system, you'll see that again. It's there as a backup. Also come equipped with safety features, like ways to see your blind spots. If you activate your turn signal, you actually get a live feed from, from the site that you're going into to show you if there's a vehicle there or not, we call that feature, a blind view monitor. Other tools include warnings if you open your door and a car is approaching, it uses cameras around the car for almost 360 degree vision. And with these features, you can concentrate on what's on the inside, which is what counts the most at Javits Center in New York. I'm Michelle Castillo.
