Tom McGee, CEO of the International Council of Shopping Centers, joins Cheddar to talk about the trends he's seeing over this Black Friday shopping holiday. He talks about the evolution of retail and how it's geared more towards millennials these days. Malls create more experiential services and entertainment-driven displays for consumers. He also talks about the technology within malls. For example, many are incorporating "sleigh rides with Santa" through iPads and virtual reality this year. He predicts this year will see strong holiday shopping numbers. And although they don't measure the whole year solely based on Black Friday, it is an important day for malls around the country, and it's a look at where retail is trending towards. Despite the headlines saying brick and mortar is dead, McGee says mall occupancy is near an all-time high. He believes it takes time to evolve a long-term asset and a lot of these retailers are at the peak of their innovation.
