Microsoft is using machine learning to help save endangered snow leopards. Cheddar's Hope King is joined by Brad Rutherford, executive director of Snow Leopard Trust, and Ted Way, a member of Microsoft's Azure machine learning team, at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. Rutherford tells us the three main reasons why snow leopards' futures are so threatened. He says it's a combination of poaching, community members killing the animals to protect their livestock, and industry expanding into the animals' natural habitat. He says Microsoft's research is helping save thousands of hours of manpower at the non-profit. Machine learning is helping scan through thousands of photos to identify the cats, and document their movements and population. Ted Way gives his insights on what Azure is doing to help the cause. He says the program's accuracy is only getting better, comparing the process to Facebook's ability to suggest tags based on faces in pictures.
