Laila Alawa, founder and CEO of media website The Tempest, discusses her quest to "beat Buzzfeed" in the media space by giving voices to women and minorities who are not often heard in traditional media. Alawa discusses the more than 1,200 contributors to "The Tempest" from all over the globe who contribute to the publication's diverse group of voices. We also ask the CEO about start-up culture and how she is making sure her company stands out from the pack, by practicing what it preaches. Alawa notes that the basis for the culture at "The Tempest" is less about being a start-up and more about being a mission-driven company.
