How Russian Athletes Will Still Be Able To Compete At The Winter Olympics Despite Nation Ban
The 2018 Winter Olympics are a day away. Over 100 countries' teams will compete, but Russia won't be one of them. The country was banned from this year's games due to a doping scandal. However, individual Russian athletes will still be able to compete. James Yoder, Founder and CEO of Chat Sports, explains how.
So far, more than 150 athletes will compete as "Olympic Athletes From Russia." They will walk in the opening ceremonies in attire devoid of any mentions of Russia, and to the tune of the Olympic Hymn.
The final Grand Slam tennis tournament of 2021 will be lacking some of its biggest stars including Venus and Serena Williams, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. However, with legendary names missing from the court, it could provide an opportunity for future superstars to shine. Jon Wertheim, a senior writer at Sports Illustrated, joined Cheddar to discuss the fallout from the cancellations. "This is tennis' version of the NBA after [Michael] Jordan," he said. "Some Kobe [Bryant] or some LeBron [James] will come along, and we'll have new champions to cheer for."
