As Tropical Storm Elsa makes its way up the East Coast, Tom Knutson, a senior scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), joined Cheddar to discuss how the warming climate is impacting big storms overall. "Once the sea level rises it's not going to go back down any time soon and that's creating the potential for greater inundation levels by any storms that do happen," he said. "So it's worsening flood risk at the coast." He added that forecasts expect the sea levels to continue rising for centuries.
