"Impractical Jokers" on truTV is back for Season 9 with a new spin: celebrity guests. James Murray and Brian Quinn from the hidden camera comedy show joined Cheddar News to talk about what fans can expect. "I mean two words: sex appeal," said Murray, jokingly about their success. "You know you get a couple of middle-aged, balding overweight guys you put them on TV it's bound to click with people." 'Impractical Jokers' Invited the Celebrities They Love for Season 9 

switching gears everyone. New episodes of impractical jokers is here and fans can't wait to watch their favorite jokesters. The long running franchise bringing in a fresh new and even funnier field to the show and each episode will feature a different celebrity guest like Colin jost Brooke shields and David Cross just to name a few. So joining us now are some of the stars of the impractical jokers. We've got James Murray. Oh and we do have brian as well, brian Quinn joining us as well guys, thank you so much for joining us. Okay so we got to talk about some of the celebrities brian who is your favorite of the celebs to work with this season. Well it's look it's hard to say because you know every single person was was just a joy to work with? I will say this me and rob Riggle I think might legally be married now in certain states. We got along really well, me and rob and we kept in touch and uh and I'm really falling for rob Riggle every day a little bit more in love with. I can already see it in your eyes already as you're smitten with him already. I can just tell all the more reason I gotta watch this. Okay so James this. You guys obviously have almost like a cult following. People love your stuff. I mean you guys have been doing this for so long. What do you think is it about what you guys do that like drive so many people to watch you guys. I mean two words sex appeal. You know you get a couple of middle aged balding overweight guys. You put them on T. V. It's a demographic that's been ignored for far too. Yes. Yes the middle aged bald white guys. She's not getting any love anymore these days. Which is so crazy. Okay so walk us through the new format where you got some twists. You've got some other things that are happening this year brian. So what can fans expect in this new season? Yes. So what we did I mean what we what we did was we wanted to write joe left we didn't want to replace them because that's impossible. You can't do that right? So we wanted to expand our horizons a little bit. We ended up inviting celebrities that we happen to like love. It's not like they have something to promote and they're on our show. We made a list of people we'd love to have on the show and we're bringing them in for the punishment to help us out with the punishment either be a part of it or masterminded with us. So it's really like most of the show is the same and then we Sprinkle in a little uh a little celebrity flavor and at the end but man it's been it's been paying dividends it's been going even better than I thought it would go. Okay so James let's talk about the fact that what brian just mentioned the fact that joe is no no longer on the show anymore. Did that sort of change the creative process for you guys or was this still, you know, all steam ahead here? Yeah, I mean, gosh, it was, it was tricky because the show was uh clicked with the four of us for so, so many years. Obviously forms created together. So when, when joe left the show, it was we had to figure out how to re redo it, rebuild it, you know? But I think the challenge for us as comedians for the entirety of the show history was to keep reinventing the show. So every year, every season we literally would sit down and say, okay, how do we do things different? How do we do things better? How to twist it? Keep fans guessing where we're going to go with the direction of the show. So, Covid is a perfect example of that. We had to reinvent the show entirely during Covid to still keep filming it. And it became just another challenge that we've had to overcome. And and and it actually led to some of the most creative, interesting fun things we've ever done on the show because it forces us out of our comfort zone into new and fun areas. Yeah, that's really interesting brian, I want to get you involved in that same topic here because look, I've interviewed, you know, chefs a perfect example and they're like, look, I can only do so many recipes in a cookbook for so many years before you're like I'm out of recipes at what point are you like? We're out of jokes, we've done absolutely everything here. Well I mean the show is like it's based on and created around messing with your friends and it's like when I mean that's been going on for thousands of years, like I don't think that the very notion of goofing around with your friends and and trying to embarrass them to make yourself laugh. I don't think it's ever gonna go away. I you know, why would it? It's endless. The theme is friendship and what we do to each other as friends. So to me it's just like, I don't know, I don't I think we can refill that well every day if we want to. Well that's that's good to know. Okay, so is there a particular joke maybe this upcoming season? I'll ask you both this that's something that you both are really sort of proud of. This is something that you really sort of appreciate for this upcoming season James. I'll start with you. I'm not proud. I'm embarrassed by. What about in an upcoming episode? We have the one and only method man as the celebrity guest from mu tang and he's conducting a panel, like a tv expert panel. I'm on the panel with him, The audience of course has no idea. We're secretly filming impractical jokers but right before I came out onto the panel in front of 100 people, the guys had me insert an adult apparatus into my posterior section that they controlled via ipad and the ipad 34 settings on it, earthquake, tsunami, hurricane and smooth jazz. I was leaked out of my chair during the panel. Smooth jazz. Right? I didn't have a choice. Okay brian, same question for you. You know what I'm really look like. We were very nervous about how we would interact with the celebrity guests. You know what I mean? Because you don't want to ruin what the show is. So really like, it's not a specific joke, but I'm like, I'm just proud of how when it, well it went if it works like we have Brooke shields on, right? And Brooke is not known for comedy. Um you know, she's known for many, many important things, but not comedy. And we brought her in and Brooke came in and was like, look, let me make me do stuff that I wouldn't normally do. She goes, I want you to throw my image out, I want you to take everything I've done. She's like, I'm here to play. Nobody ever lets me play. So we took her, we were like, you gotta Brooke if this is what you want and she was so good that we ended up, she's the only person that's done this so far. We ended up keeping her the entire episode brooks in every challenge and the punishment and that's just based on us feeling like we discovered that Brooke shields is one of the funniest people on the planet. So like I'm, I'm just really proud of that. I'm just really proud of like that, that like I don't know stuff like that. Well I was gonna say because I think a lot of people have perceptions about celebrities, does it always sort of surprise you when celebrities are game for, for a lot of this? Oh yeah, like I didn't think method man would be down to be sitting next to Murray while he had something up his posterior doing the smooth jazz. I was like, guys, there's no way method man is gonna do this. This is crazy. And when we told him the idea, he just, he was laughing so hard, he almost tears coming out of his eye. So it's like, you know, it's, it's pretty cool. Like I've looked up to method man my entire life. So to see another side of him like that. I mean it's, you know, I know this might not translate to the television show, but just behind the scenes, Like I was really so blown away and pleased by how everybody was willing to James last question. I mean, are you hoping Nicholas Cage because I'm only guessing because he's behind you. He's going to make an appearance on these seasons. This is me putting out to the universe. I'm manifesting. Yeah, I'm putting it out there in the universe.
