A guitar destroyed by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain sold for nearly $600,000 on Saturday at an auction in a Hard Rock Café in New York City. The Fender Stratocaster electric guitar sold for 10 times the estimated value, which Julien's Auctions marked as between $60,000 to $80,000 dollars. Cobain smashed the guitar in the early 1990s while recording the band's breakout album Nevermind. The guitar was reassembled but is no longer playable. Nirvana's three most famous members, Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, have signed it.
