James Cameron's Message to 'Avatar' Sequel Critics

Avatar: The Way of the Water director James Cameron doesn't care if you're not a fan of movies (like this one) with long runtimes. He essentially told critics of the upcoming sequel that the movie will be long and they should just deal with it. In an interview with Empire Magazine, he said if people can binge watch television all day, then they can sit through a movie that runs longer than two hours. "I've watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row. Here's the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: it's ok to get up and go pee," he said. So far, the runtime of Avatar 2 has not been revealed but the 2009 film ran over 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Only two previous titles, "Ozark" and "Tiger King," have ever logged more than 5 billion viewing minutes and both hit those marks during the lockdown stage of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
