In Entertainment: Beyonce No. 1, Brad Pitt Wins Box Office & Mike Tyson Slams Hulu

Okay, so we're gonna have to kick off the show very quickly with a music moment. Beyonce's newest album has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and she's the first woman to hold that spot so far this year. I'm clapping to Shannon and Renaissance had a huge first week selling 332,000 equivalent album units. That's traditional album sales plus digital sales. Only one other artist has had a better first week in 2022. That's harry styles with Harry's House of the 15 tracks on renaissance. If they weren't really enough Beyonce treated fans remix of Break My Soul featuring the one and only Madonna. She shouts out several influential female black artists in the songs. Of course, you gotta take a listen. Lauryn Hill, roberta, flack, Tony Janet, Tierra whack, Missy, Diana, Grace Charles, Aretha Anita, Grace jones, jilly from Philly. I love you boo. Don't just stand there, get into it, strike a pose, there's nothing to it vogue. That is one power packed verse right there. Yes, it's so catchy too. There's also lizzo, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott and several others or reference in the track dubbed the queen's remix. I don't know if you saw on twitter at Lizzo had quite the response to this saying, hey, I have just been just mentioned by Beyonce. I mean it's a big deal for anyone but the fact that people like her and Alicia Keys as well as Jill scott are just shocked and I'm very much just happy to get that much needed homage. And it also shows how you know, just, I don't know, kind generous you want to say whatever word it is and she is to be able to announce these women and give them shout outs for their creativity for you know, them leading the ways and the ways that they did, but just being there and so I, you know, nothing but respect and love the album so far. I haven't heard a bad track yet. So that's good that she's just killing the game right now. She really is. That is the song that is the whole album to dance to, to clean the house to for everything, work to its working for everything. I can't even stop listening to at this point. That's why they call her the queen. She knows what she's doing. All right now, let's get to some of our other top entertainment headlines that we're following for you. Starting with your box office brad Pitt's bullet train sped ahead of the competition this weekend. Another story of serial killers fighting over a briefcase on a japanese bullet train. Well, it was a lady. This test of whether an action film with an original plot line could actually attract a large audience. The answer. Well, kinda so bullet train which cost $90 million to produce, made just over $30 million in its opening weekend here in the U. S. And another 32.5 million internationally. Probably not the opening weekend in an action movie starring brad Pitt once but not a disaster either. So that's good. And as you see right there on your screen, dc legends of super pets landed in the second place, fetching $11.2 million. The Jordan peele sci fi horror flick nope, finished in third with 8.5 million in its third weekend in theaters. And thor Love and Thunder along with the millions, the rise of Gru both made more than $7 million apiece. Okay, so we gotta get back to bullet train right one time stunt double and brand of brad Pitt actually who went on to direct action films like atomic blonde and Deadpool two. He was the one who actually tapped his doppelganger to lead this road now despite Britt's Star Power pet brad Pitt. That is Star Power. The film has received mixed reviews, including a 54% critic approval rating on rotten tomatoes but hey, it's still got brad pitt in it. Right, That's true. Okay, so I'm not a big action flick person. I know I'm gonna make some people really upset here even with brad pitt in it. I'm really not into them as much and I read just recently. I know, I know that actually horror flicks tend to do better because of the fact that they just have such a low budget, especially for streaming platforms like netflix. So I'm curious that this is kind of a telltale sign that in the future. Maybe it's not a good idea to invest so much in these big action flicks. Even if the king also known as brad pitt is fronting it. Yeah maybe they need to give some of the up and comers opportunity to prove themselves in these action flicks to kind of build a star creative star and if it's still action packed I think and a good storyline people will still go see it. It's interesting that this didn't do as well. Maybe it wasn't promoted as much as it should have been. But either way, you know I think those people who love action movies are gonna check it out. Maybe a lot of people are also waiting till things hit the streaming. So it's like a whole different industry. We're talking about rating these movies at now but still I think some people are still are stuck at home and not wanting to go see movies at the movie theater. So maybe that has something to do with it as well. Well one action flick that did do well that we have to get to is tom Cruise, Top Gun Maverick that soared past titanic on the list of top domestic box office films of all time. And here's the full list of the top 10 films you have to refresh your memory with Maverick now in seventh place. The long awaited sequel has galvanized action film lovers all across the U. S. And the world, sending movie letters lovers back to the theater. Almost two years of sitting at home now. It's not yet clear if Top Gun can climb even higher on this historic list for paramount, top Gun Maverick is now the studio's highest grossing film and it's 100 and 10 year history, a mind blowing fact. There's also been some strong demand overseas for the blockbuster worldwide. It generated 1.3 billion so far. Which is absolutely incredible considering as well that Miles Teller was really getting a lot of eyeballs in this film a lot for this actor who could have a next future I guess if they continue to these Maverick films. But I think it's it's quite impressive that a sequel could come out so strong. You know, surprisingly I like the sequel to the top gun better than the original. I was like why is everybody hype over the original? I don't get it. But when I saw this one and I also saw it like surround Dobie theater sound and so it was like shaking the seats so it was great seeing in that environment. I I'm still surprised it's the top earner. I'm surprised it did so well. But you know, hey I think they did a great job putting it together so kudos to them for that. It would be interesting to see when the new avatar comes out. It's probably gonna blow all the numbers off off the charts and will be at the top once again I'm surprised I got pushed so far down the list already, but you know, it is what it is the same here. I'm definitely gonna do what you did for Top Gun maverick and be boogie and get a huge surrounds experience. You know, do all the fancy reclining seating. You have to do that fully adds the entire experience definitely. And speaking of adding to the experience, Mike, Tyson is ready to step into the ring boom boom with hulu. That's right. The legendary boxer, apparently not too happy that the streaming developed a series about his life, but guess what? Without compensating him? Yeah, they went to the back door for this one. Tyson taking to instagram writing, you see the quote right there on your screen who tried to desperately pay my brother Dana White millions without offering me a dollar to promote their slave master takeover story about my life. He turned it down because he honors friendship and treating people with dignity. I'll never forget what he did for me. Just like, I'll never forget what Hulu stole from me. Now, Dana White, if you didn't know as the president of UFC and by the way, leader of other groups as well, like the Mexico based World Boxing Council and he claimed that they misled him there. You did. They misled him and tricked them into participating into this show. So that was interesting spinoff events there now. The series titled Mike, by the way follows Tyson's life from adolescence to his prime Boxing years and the controversies that followed the first two episodes of the eight episode series will premiere on august 25th, I think sadly people are still gonna wanna watch this, they're still gonna tune in because they want to see what Mike Tyson's life is. But I wonder how accurate it is to the truth, especially since he didn't have anything to do with it, that they go to childhood friends to get the adolescent stories that they get a family member to write out all the stories of the family. I want to know how accurate it is and what Mike Tyson will think about it once he sees it, he sees it. I have the same question, Shannon, you know, I I there's lots of eyes on this particular flick because of the fact that he has some big names behind the screenwriter for I Tonya, a screen wrote, Mike, you have one of the lead actors from moonlight playing Mike Tyson himself. So there's a lot that's riding on this and the fact that Mike Tyson is already vetoed, it is definitely going to be something that we have to continue to watch. But there's also insight that he was trying to start another by, about his life with Jamie Foxx playing that lead role. But as of now there has been no other um insight regarding if that has been picked up. So, there's lots of questions as to what's gonna happen next. But you know, when the person when the person that you're making this film about does not like it, I think that already kind of cast a shadow on the future of the film. Well, he can use the energy from this film to promote the new one he's doing with Jamie Foxx if it ever gets done. So there you go.
