In Entertainment: 'Doctor Strange 2' Box Office, Kendrick Lamar & SNL Cast Sendoff

let's get you caught up on some of your top entertainment headlines and we're starting with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse. It is nothing to be mad about winning the weekend box office. Once again, the marvel films surpassing $800 million globally this weekend. While Disney continues to enjoy the top spot for now. Oh yeah, Top Gun Maverick. It is definitely expected to fly in and dominate Memorial Day weekend by the way, Downton Abbey, a new era landed in at number two over the weekend, scoring $16 million for more than 3800 north american theaters and its domestic debut. It's a sequel to the big screen continuation of that beloved british series elsewhere at the domestic box office, The bad guys and sonic the hedgehog two coming in at three and four respectively. That's like eight weeks now. I feel like sonic hedgehog has been in the top five, which is sort of amazing. But let's talk about this upcoming weekend because that was the interesting thing. I, I pulled up our friend Shawn roberts over at box office pro sort of projections for where he's looking at. So Top Gun Maverick, they're expecting anywhere between 98 $125 million this weekend. Just this opening weekend for Top Gun, which is amazing the weekend after that you have Lightyear coming out there like Buzz Lightyear, you're pretty, he's projecting 90 to $120 million for its opening weekend. Two weeks after that Jurassic world Dominion, $215 million in the opening weekend for Jurassic park. So for the next three or four weeks, it's just going to be insane, bonanza money coming into the box office. I think most of us want to see everything. Yes, exactly. All of them, basically on the top list for pretty much everybody for the rest of the year. So either way very exciting. So yes, this was basically the last weekend that Doctor Strange was sort of able to sort of capitalize our big number one. I wonder sonic will hold down to the ground by the way, if sonic stays in the top five. And that isn't with these new movies coming out. I mean, that is incredible, right? Absolutely. Kendrick. Lamar Speaking of Incredible, has done it again. The rapper landing his 4th # one album on the Billboard 200 chart. Mr Morale and the Big Steppers. Lamar's first album in five years, went straight to the top of the charts in its first week with the equivalent of over 295,000 album album sales in the US. That's according to illuminate the biggest week of the year for any album. Last week, Bad bunny's new album arrived at number one with 274,000 albums sold, Kendrick, Lamar has debuted at number one with each of his last four albums. You and I both have listened to Kendrick's new album. I like it. It's not it's not a summer, feel good kind of album, but it's a good album. It's a good one, it's dark, I like it. It's got some really good beats to it. The 95 song is really, really good. Obviously this is all going to change because the harry styles harry house album is going to change all of this. But essentially, if you look at mr morale in the Big Steppers, you mentioned 295,000 sales in the US. That's essentially 343 million streaming streams of that song, which is still incredibly great to sort of look at it. But obviously that's all going to change now once you start to tabulate harry styles harry house numbers, which by the way, we don't have those numbers just yet, but that's going to be amazing to listen to. Meanwhile, sad news after eight seasons on SNL this weekend, Pete Davidson said goodbye to the sketch comedy show that helped make him a household name. Davidson stopped by the weekend update desk and he held nothing back. Listen here, Colin and che and millions of people only watching to see if I bring up Kanye. Yeah, he you've you've had a weird year. Yeah, a little bit. I remember when I auditioned for SNL, he looked me right in the eye and said, I don't know, I don't think you're right for this show. So let's screw this up together. Good thing. SNL Producer, Lorne Michaels Bet on the King of Staten Island. Davidson, thank the super producer for believing in him and allowing him to have a place that he could call home the late night show. Getting a bit of a shakeup that some other big stars like kate Mckinnon, Aidy Bryant and even Kyle Mooney also leaving the each reprised reprised roles of their most popular sketches, including Mackinnon and brian's close encounters the kid in the last show, last show marked her 211th episode on 11 seasons on SNL that makes her the longest running female cast member in history on the network, which is incredible. Think of all the different characters that kate Mckinnon has played by the way, there's been rumors for years that kate Mckinnon, it would have been her last season and it looks like it's finally going to be the case. And you can see at the end, you know, when they were saying their goodbyes that she was really sort of touched and sort of emotional when she was saying goodbye to a lot of her colleagues personally. I'm more devastated about 80 Bryant, I think she is one of my favorite SNL cast member Absolutely ever. I just think she's so funny, Kyle Mooney, there's maybe some ideas out there and some reports that that that maybe he's not leaving just based off of the sketch that he did, which was the Pigtail sketch that's not sort of the best goodbye sort of sketch for him, but there's other rumors out there. Maybe you see Michael Che, maybe you see, CAilin joe's also go as well, Cecily strong and kenan Thompson was reportedly going to be leaving last year, the hard part for this. And by the way, Lorne Michaels has already said this is going to be a year of change for SnL. They typically do not confirm casting changes until the fall with basically like a few weeks before the next upcoming season. So, I really feel like this, next summer is going to be all speculation about who's coming and who's going, what's going to happen to these Snl stars and no one knows about, you know, And then you bring up a good point in the sense that we've had Kate Mckinnon and Pete Davidson and Aidy Bryant on since like 2012, but there are some really good players that are still there and a lot of those recurring people um that we just got introduced to over the course of the last couple of years, obviously gonna come and backfill this, but that means that Bowen yang, you have Heidi Gardner, you're gonna have Chloe Feinman, you're gonna have Egg O'Odham, they're gonna sort of be the sort of the star characters, I think in the next year. All right. I mean, look, it's gonna be sad, it's gonna be sad. But look, we do this all the time when all these legendary characters end up leaving and they're going to have amazing careers. I mean, kate Mckinnon's gonna be in so many blockbuster movies. Yeah, Pete Davidson is not going anywhere. He's got his peacock show that he's got coming up. Aidy Bryant has a hulu show shrill. I mean, so there's so many different things that people are going to be able to be able to do. So it's not like we're gonna say goodbye forever. And after the new Mission Impossible trailer leaked online, people on twitter could not stop talking about it. So after working hard to yank the Pirated version of social media paramount made it a bit easier for all of us to see the epic footage dropping the official Mission Impossible Dead reckoning part One trailer and it's nothing short of mind blowing. Here's a glimpse your days of fighting for the so called greater good. They're evil. Mm hmm. This is our chance to control the truth. The concepts of right and wrong from everyone for centuries to come. You're fighting to save an ideal. That doesn't exist. I never did. Mhm. You need to pick a side. All right. That's a good trailer. In typical Tom Cruise fashion. The preview has explosive action, insane stunts. Mission Impossible Dead reckoning Part one was delayed several times. We're talking several due to the pandemic. It's set to be released in theaters in july of next year. Part two is expected to be released in the summer of 2020 for tom Cruise has been a busy, busy guy. These movies are always so fun to watch though. I put him up with James. So Mission Impossible super fans. I love Mission Impossible. Not as much as James Bond, but I love Mission Impossible. The guy that was talking there harkens back to a character from before that is Eugene Kittredge who was in the 1996 movie as one of the villains. Remember that's why a lot of people are like, whoa, he's back in this also. So no, no doubt. That is really sort of amazing. And as you mentioned that this is a two part thing, right? This is essentially according to reports, at least according to variety, the last two movies that tom Cruise would be a part of. So basically you would have two times basically get your fill of tom Cruise before they might try and do Mission Impossible with a whole new sort of cast here. I don't know how you would do Mission Impossible without talking about it. And he does all of his own stunts. The action parts and all of this are so amazing. But literally it seems like with Top Gun this year and then the next two years of Mission Impossible, it seems like the next three summers are all gonna be the summers of Tom Cruise. Alright Speaking of guys, time down for Hollywood advice market shock this time between belts. When we look at all the fun stuff entertainment, marijuana booze and sports betting stocks That are trending this hour unless I'm a Conan O'Brien, he's officially $150 million dollars richer. The former late night talk show host has now sold his podcast and his digital media business team Coco to radio giant Sirius XM. The deal will see O'brian's popular interview podcast. Conan O'brien needs a friend and his 10 other team Coco podcasts that include parks and rec series hosted by rob Lowe and Alan Yang called Parks and Recollection. The shows will continue to be distributed on other popular podcasting platforms as well. Now as part of the $150 million deal, Conan has signed a five year talent deal with Sirius XM and we also produce a comedy channel as well as a video content from the podcast and his late night show, including live events and merchandise team Coco staff will also join Sirius XM as well. Conan said in a statement about the deal quote When I started in television, my ultimate goal was to work my way up to radio, listen up big leaks. Ryan Murphy's Dramedy Glee has a new home on Disney Plus and hulu, starting june 1st after leaving netflix in november, the pop culture phenomenon will be ready to binge on its new home right in time for pride. The series follows a group of high school misfits who formed a glee club and it starts to leah Michelle and Matthew Morrison, the show ran for six seasons on Fox. I love that show. During its time, the series earned four Emmys and multiple Glad Media awards. That is a show I would happily both on the same, same same. Meanwhile, celebs like Snoop and lady gaga have embraced the metaverse brands like Nike and Gucci have as well and now Sony ready to take the metaverse by storm at their annual strategy briefing. The entertainment electronics giant says they're now fully prepared to play a key role in the virtual landscape. Their ceo saying, quote, the metaverse is at the same time a social space and a live networking space where games, music, movies and anime will intersect and this has been so surprising coming from Sony. Over the last few years, the company has been shifting to a more collaborative approach to gaming this with their massive investments in Fortnite and owner of Epic Games, according to Sony North of 50% of the revenue last year came from Sony's entertainment division and that includes gaming, movies and music related services.
