GOLDEN GLOBES RETURN
The Golden Globe Awards are attempting a comeback after NBC canceled the show last year in response to an ethics, finances, and diversity scandal. The nominees were announced today; now it's just a question of whether Hollywood actually shows up. Some big names have already snubbed the Globes: Brendan Frasier, nominated for his role in The Whale, has said he will not be attending, and megastar Tom Cruise in 2021 returned all three of his Globe awards. (He also wasn't nominated for his role in the biggest blockbuster of the year, Top Gun: Maverick.) The broadcast is now scheduled for January 10, with a lineup of nominees that includes, among other films and TV shows, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, and the still unreleased Avatar: The Way of Water
CAMERON HAS COVID
Speaking of Avatar, director James Cameron has come down with a case of COVID-19, and won't be attending the premiere Monday night in Los Angeles. Cameron has been aggressively promoting the long-awaited sequel all over the world, and said he got infected on a flight back from Tokyo. The new film is a decade-plus in the making, and Cameron said he was eager to hit the red carpet for the Hollywood premiere. Alas, it was not to be: "The number of people I've told over the years, ‘Ah, we’ll catch up and I’ll see you at the premiere…well, I guess not. Man proposes, and God disposes," Cameron told Deadline
ELON MUSK BOOED
Twitter head Elon Musk made a surprise appearance during comedian Dave Chappelle's set in San Francisco on Sunday, and the audience wasn't too happy to see him. After Chappelle said "make some noise for the richest man in the world," Musk was met with a chorus of boos and was barely audible as he paced back and forth across the stage. The billionaire apparently did not interpret his chilly reception as a sign that he should work on his public persona. "The woke mind virus is either defeated or nothing else matters," he tweeted on Monday.
'WHITE LOTUS' FINALE
The finale for HBO series White Lotus aired Sunday night, capping off a second season that has proven more divisive than the critically acclaimed original. Now the obligatory recaps, rundowns, and fan theories are taking the internet by storm. Even creator Mike White is weighing in, unpacking the twisty slow-burn drama series while it's still fresh in viewers' minds. Meanwhile, a third season has not yet been confirmed, but multiple cast members are open to the idea
