Nicki Minaj, Pop Queen?
Nicki Minaj is again at war with the Recording Academy. This time, the Queens, New York native said that she is being treated unfairly after her recently released single Super Freaky Girl was rejected by the Academy's hip hop and rap committee for its pop sound. They suggested she submit the song in the pop categories to be considered for the Grammys. Minaj then suggested that another female rapper, Latto, who had a smash in Big Energy and a remix featuring Mariah Carey, should also have her song moved out of the hip hop and rap category. The comments sent social media into a frenzy and sparked an hours-long back-and-forth between the rappers.
'Halloween Ends' Projections
It looks to be a good opening weekend for what is said to be Jamie Lee Curtis' last appearance in the Halloween franchise. Halloween Ends raked in $5.4 million at the box office in Thursday night previews, premiering in 3,200 theaters and looking to add another 3,901 on Friday. It's also streaming on NBC's Peacock platform. Early projections estimate the horror flick will bring in $50 million to $55 million in its first weekend. The movie follows the lead character Laurie Strode four years after the previous film, Halloween Kills.
'House Party' Reboot
Remember House Party, the 1990 comedy starring hip hop artists Kid & Play? Well, a rebooted version is in the works, and we got the first look in a newly dropped trailer. The film features some familiar names in Jacob Latimore, DC Young Fly, and Rotimi, and you can expect more of the same that we first saw in the original: A high school kid sneaking out to attend a friend's house party while his parents are out of town. It's being produced by LeBron James' SpringHill Company and is slated for release on January 13, 2023.
