In Entertainment: ‘Prey’ Sets Hulu Record, Idris vs. Superman & Trump Deepfake Movie?

some of the things that we're following here. First up, we've got to talk about pray, the latest installment in the predator franchise. It set a new record for viewership on hulu. The prequel film debuted over the weekend. And parent company Disney says it's the biggest premiere on Hulu ever, including all film and Tv series. Now Disney made the choice from the beginning to put parade directly on the streamer, skipping a theatrical release and that's probably because the last predator film released in theaters back in 2018 was a box office bust. But pray looks like a winner. Set in the 17 prey follows a young native american woman encountering the homicidal alien at the center of the predator franchise. It's not only die hard predator fans that love the film to critics. Also it's got a 92% critics for on rotten tomatoes. Uh so Hannah talking about this movie, I love breaking this down because my first thought was like what is the formula for movie success these days, we were recently talking about the gray man and how you can't really compare viewership or streaming on these platforms to an actual ticket in the theaters. Um, but also we mentioned that 2018 box office bust from the predator franchise. You can't always rely on nostalgia. But this one reminded me a lot of what we saw with squid game. You have essentially a lesser known actor. This isn't an a list star is amber, mid thunder and native american star, which is really exciting in terms of diversity. But pulling in these huge numbers with a relatively unknown cast and also that intellectual property with this franchise. I'm sure Disney wonders what would have happened if they would have put it to theaters after these numbers surpassing other titles like the Kardashians and also Handmaid's Tale. I think that's the question. So many people are asking how this movie would have done if it went directly into theaters asIA personal antidote here. When I got home yesterday, around eight p.m. My husband was watching this movie and I swear I didn't put my bag down. I got sucked in. It's such a good movie. It's action packed. I love the actress. You write you native american and they very much played around that character and that heritage. I think it's incredible. And I it is the bigger question is it better for streamers or for directed theaters? This is a big question. I think a lot of studios, even a lot of actors, I I'm sure are wondering what would have been better and this movie, this is all word of mouth and like I said, I just walked in, I'm like, what is this? It's like pray and it was amazing. It was just so fun. So I think this is continue is going to continue to do really well. I will say before we move on that I saw the trailer. I don't know how much they poured into marketing. We know this is under the Disney umbrella, but we've also seen, you know Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not necessarily living up to what Disney was expecting again comparing apples to oranges but I don't think they put a ton into the marketing of this film and I think you're right. Word of mouth goes a long way. I'd never really heard of it until I started watching yesterday and I got sucked in Asia. I have to say this probably is my favorite story because you know Superman is my favorite favorite comic book. Cancer. That was my first comic book my first movie with a character superhero. So idris Elba, another favorite of ours wants to battle it out with Superman as his Suicide squad character Bloodsport In an interview with Variety. Elba teased his potential return to the Dc comics universe, fingers crossed. Please come back. He appeared in the The Suicide Squad last year alongside Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and john Cena as peacemaker in the film. It's mentioned that a Kryptonite bullet fired by Bloodsport sent Superman to the I. C. U. And the supervillain to prison Elba saying that another battle between his character and superman quote needs to happen considering the reset currently taking place at D. C. Due to the merger of course between Discovery and warnermedia it's anyone's guess addresses dream will become a reality if fans have anything to do with it whether you're a superman fan or an interest Elba fan. Yes please make it happen. And again it goes back to the Comic books. Bloodsport shot Superman almost killed him until Jimmy Olsen showed up. That's a whole other thing, but I think this would be incredible and to see idris Elba and I think Henry cavil is still superman, I don't think that's changed, I would love to see them go toe to toe in a movie, this would be incredible. A dream come true, I'm glad you pointed out Henry cavill because that was causing a bunch of controversy, idris Elba and before that Dwayne the rock johnson in his Black Adam premiere at Comic Con, a fan asked who would win in the showdown between Black Adam and superman and he said Pence who was playing superman, that got fans thinking Henry cavill might be stepping down, in which case they might not want to see this, so we'll have to watch this one really closely Hannah, especially as you're a real life Lois Lane, I love pointing that out every time he brings up a great insight by the way, I did not know about it, thank you for pointing that out. Yeah, and South Park creators, Trey Parker and matt Stone apparently had an entire film plan starring former President Donald trump with the help of Deepfake Technology though, here's a sample of the Pears, we're featuring a fake President trump. Sometimes it takes something as big as COVID-19 to make you realize what you really have and who you are, I've been staring at the abyss of death. It's suddenly clear to me I'm a horrible person. Alright. That clip was taken from Sassy Justice, a Youtube series the team launched featuring news reporter fred Sassy who looks a lot like former president donald trump. It was the first bit of content to come out of the duo studio deep voodoo burger and stone told the L. A. Times they had planned an entire movie featuring a fake version of trump. But the project had to be scrapped due to the pandemic. While there are no concrete plans to revisit the idea. Stone said the film is quote on hold. So my first thought was how is this legal, regardless of where you stand on wanting this film to come out? I think it's a slippery slope and it made me think of all of the image and likeness lawsuits we've seen over the years namely and things like fashion, not necessarily in the movie scene, thank God yet. Um, but it would be interesting to see think about this moving forward. How would this affect talent and casting? If you could simply deepfake someone who's already made a name for themselves are already a real life public figure and again, I think it's a slippery slope that we should stay away from. But it's really interesting. I couldn't agree more. This would change the dynamics of movie as we know it with that said, we know the creators of South Park don't traditionally go in a very conservative way and really throw caution to the wind. I don't think this is the end of this movie. I think we might see it if our former president trump has already hinted, pretty much said that he will probably run again. I think they might, I don't know this, but just knowing what they've done in the past, I think they might release it around election time. Well. And it's also interesting because in the clip that I watch from the Youtube series, I just watched like the first couple of minutes you can tell this is not donald trump, but in this one he's dressed in really presidential garb is the background. It's a little bit more confusing. I don't know that the discerning viewer would actually think this is donald trump but still it really toes that boundary of what we're expecting when it comes to scripted or cinematic content and real life news.
