In Entertainment: R. Kelly Gets 30, Cameron Diaz Unretires & BET Awards Ratings

Kelly whose full name, Robert, Sylvester Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday. That follows his conviction last year on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, all stemming from his efforts over years to use his fame to groom victims that he sexually abused. Now the judge in this case handed down the sentence after hearing statements from Kelly's victims, but not from the singer himself. The singer has been behind bars since July of 2019. His lawyers say they do plan to file an appeal on this case. Now that kelly's been sentenced, he's expected to be taken to Chicago, that's where he faces federal trial for child pornography and obstruction charges in that particular case. This also, if anything, you know, maybe with Harvey Weinstein, one of the more big cases when it comes to the Me Too movement. This also goes to show the power of documentary films at the same time, because the lifetime series chronicling all of this stuff with r kelly was part of the motive and the impetus of getting R kelly basically found guilty because we've been hearing the rumors for years for decades, basically percolated from a larger perspective and some of the victims have actually spoken out since the sentencing saying this is not enough, but right now, he might be spending the rest of his life in jail in some lighter news and I love this story, Cameron Diaz is back in action in Hollywood, the actor coming out of retirement, that's excuse me, that's right. But look now it shows the power net with these streamers. You can pick and choose which ones you're interested in and then go back to your normal life. As a result of that, she had said in so many interviews, she's the reason the reason why she retired, she didn't want to spend 16 hours a day on the set anymore. Now in this era of streaming you can pick and choose particular projects and you don't have to do that anymore. Meanwhile the 2022 B. E. T. Awards proved that truly culture. It was culture's biggest night. It broke a record as the best performing cable awards show. Sunday ceremony averaged 3.2 million viewers which is a 34% gain over last year's show. This year's B. E. T. Awards was simulcast across 10 Viacom. Cbs. Cable outlets including B. E. T. Last year's show came in at an all time low of 2.4 million. That across seven channels B. E. T. Accounted for about 64% of the total with 2.6 million viewers. Which is double digits up from a year ago. Taraji P. Henson hosted this year's award show. Some of the highlights included Diddy being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award again, the stallion and Kendrick Lamar being named the best female and best hip hop artist and King Richard taking home the best movie award as well. And of course, we also saw interesting outfits from Kanye West coming out of hiatus. He said for people like me and you who love a good award show is open open. This maybe gives me hope as we've seen almost all award shows in terms of ratings start to decline, interest in them start to decline as well. What did the B. E. T. Awards show with the live performances, music, music, all these other sorts of things. As to what may be other award shows can kind of mimic to sort of bring up their ratings as well because the Oscars yes, a slight rebound from where they had before. But we're still at all time lows for the Oscars. The Emmys still all time lows, The Grammys still all time lows. So maybe this is sort of a playbook for all these other award shows to sort of mimic here. I mean he obviously did something right if last year they had some of the lowest ratings in just a year later bounce up in this way is pretty incredible. I mean was Jack Harlow, they had superstars at this year's Awards two and Kanye West, whether you like him or not, I mean him coming out and taking that stage talking about God is talking about it and it's a good day. That basically there still is a market there for rom com because most of these companies, Universal Pictures is no exception. Have realized that netflix and all these other companies, you can put these on a streamer because they're not going to go to the theaters. This might be one absolutely right that they could go. I found it interesting. This is not going to be the fifth movie that George Clooney and Julia roberts apparently have been in together. They apparently started all of this 20 years ago when they were on Ocean's 11 together. And apparently I didn't know this, that was when they first sort of really met like apparently they had met at other parties like that.
