This weekend big winners include Wakanda Forever at the box office and Taylor Swift at the VMA's. Meanwhile, Dave Chapelle finds himself in hot water over his SNL monologue. 

In Entertainment: 'Wakanda' Box Office, Taylor Swift Wins Big & Chappelle on SNL

let's take a look at the world of entertainment, Shall we Friends this weekend audiences for the highly anticipated Black panther, Wakanda forever. Disney's Black panther sequel brought in a roaring 180 million in its opening weekend in the number two spot, Warner brothers latest superhero film Black Adam. It brought in 8.6 million in its fourth week and the number three spot Universal's ticket to Paradise. That's the George, Clooney Julia roberts rom com. It brought in $6 million in its fourth week. But let's go Chloe back to Wakanda Forever. It was below the 202 million for the first black panther. But you have to think with how things have changed dramatically in terms of going to theaters streaming all of that stuff. But that's actually a pretty a good number for all intensive purposes. Anything over 200 is going to be incredibly difficult to get to. And this is just below the 187 million I think Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had for the year. So either way, good news right there for Wakanda Forever baker plus there's seasonal factors to consider here as well. You know, this opening represents one of the best premieres of the year and it makes the superhero film, the highest grossing debut ever for the month of november. So lots of factors working with this. And of course to your point there, this is without Chadwick Boseman in the film, although his presence did kind of hang heavy in this movie. Um, if you've had the opportunity to see it. I mean I'm not surprised this movie did so well. It was incredibly hyped. It had a lot of, you know, emotion and feeling going into it. So I can see why marvel fans, why even people who aren't marvel. Cinematic universe fans were flocking to this film. It was such a record setting movie, the first film when it came out, so it looks like the second one is doing the same. And by the way, one last thing I'll note on this $300 million globally, it has a huge international audience. They did a premiere an african premier in Nigeria. That typically does not happen. And as a result of that over the weekend, this movie had the highest grossing premiere in Nigerian film history, which is amazing, absolutely incredible baker. Now, speaking of accolades, the athletes keep coming in for Taylor Swift, the singer won big at sunday's MTV european music awards Swift who led the nominations with seven nominations, walked away with four wins, including for best artist, best video and best long form video, currently topping the charts with anti hero from her record breaking new album. Midnight swift made a surprise appearance at the awards in Dusseldorf to collect her awards. The latest long line of accolades for the singer songwriter accepting her first award of the night. She said, quote, the fans are the only reason any of this happens for me. Well that ends some really savvy, like social media and marketing efforts here. Obviously the way that she did this, the fans got involved. But she was, I mean we we talk all the time about taylor. Taylor swift is an incredibly savvy businesswoman, but I think that the way she could have piped and released this album had a lot to do with success. Not that it's not an incredible album, but it's broken so many records. It's absolutely mind blowing here, baker. Exactly. Think of like when she was doing those Tiktok videos every week with the, with the, with the bingo balls, saying what the new songs we're gonna be also this week, if you are a V. I. P a member of ticketmaster, you're gonna be able to get your tickets to one of Taylor Swift's shows next year, we'll be able to buy those tickets anyway after she just announced over the weekend, 17 new dates that she's going to be doing next year, ticket sales are up 30% from 2019 levels already. That has been sort of the one thing that has been sort of covid proof right now, Chloe people have gone in droves to go back to tickets to go back to concerts. And if you have taylor Swift and Beyonce, potentially even Rihanna maybe going on tour next year, it's going to be Gangbusters in 2023 for concerts baker and I know I certainly have spent a ton of money on concerts this year. So I bet everyone else is doing the same. Yes, I'm still picking up my Coachella outfits for March or april, so you know I'm going crazy for that one. Meanwhile Dave chappelle, he is in some hot water Chloe over the monologue he gave over the weekend as host of SNL, he opened with a statement denouncing anti Semitism but then he went on to say quote and that Kanye is how you buy yourself some time. Well, the director of the anti defamation league, Jonathan greenblatt tweeted, quote, we shouldn't expect Dave chappelle to serve as society's moral compass but disturbing to see SNL not normalized but popularized anti Semitism. Obviously he started at the very beginning of all this saying he stands with his jewish friends and family members, but then he went on later on in the monologue to say when he first moved to Hollywood, there were a lot of jewish people that were all over Hollywood, so I don't really know where he was sort of going with that monologue in a different sort of angle here. He did have one really funny sketch if he loved chappelle's show, he did the sketch on House of Dragons and it was sort of a reuniting of a lot of the old chappelle show characters, which I thought was really, really funny. That is hilarious because I did not have a chance to see this week's episode yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I know he has been taking a lot of heat for you know obviously this monologue, chappelle just likes to kind of get in there and kind of poke the bear of culture so to speak and say things that really shouldn't be said, I think right now, especially when we are in the thick of about of anti Semitism that is being kind of proliferated on social media here, really not a wise idea to come and go in and address this, but you know, she was going to do what she was going to do and people keep giving him a platform to and one last thing I'll say on this, Loren Michaels clearly has a thing for chappelle after an election in 2016, when trump won chappelle was the SNL host in 2020 when biden won chappelle was the host on SNL that following weekend same thing here with the midterm.
