Comedian and influencer Rob Anderson has gained traction on social media for his sketches, most popularly “Gay Science.” The funnyman is now taking his talents on a tour throughout North America, titled "Heartthrob Live." Anderson, a comedian and content creator all known for his short form sketches and social media series called Gay Science as you just saw right there Now, the influencer has racked up millions of followers using his humor to address some of the more pressing issues facing the L G B T Q plus community. And now Anderson is taking his talents on a 20 city north american comedy tour titled Heartthrob Live. So joining me now is the Heartthrob himself rob. Good to have you here. Thanks so much for being here. So gay science. I'm such a huge fan of It is so funny. Have you always been into Science? What inspired this series? Well, thank you so much. I am not a scientist myself though. I do love science and I thought it would be fun to apply my own sort of fake science to stereotypes that exist on the internet to sort of play with proving them true with something that isn't. So that's where it kind of came about. But in many ways I feel like they may be the scientists correct here. Do you almost sort of think maybe you have cracked the code here? Well, I think it's up to the viewer to determine what's real or what's not, you know, I think some videos maybe how gay men sit in a chair, not in the correct way, might um, apply to some people and they go, oh, this really speaks to me and then other videos about dying your hair in a crisis might apply to other people. So it's kind of up to your own, you know, personal experiences. I love it. I mean like for why we love pop Diva so much to why we run the way we run all of our amazing rob. Let's talk about the tour on the website. It was really funny when I was looking this up for Heartthrob live. It says it's highly recommended for anybody who has witnessed or smelled gay sex. I mean a lot of questions go into that, but what if the fans started going to experience in this show from you? I wanted to make it clear that it was gay and I just I needed I needed to really put that out there. I've done a few shows and there's been some straight people in the audience and anyone and everyone will like the show. Even love the show, but if you're familiar with gay sex it's really free. What does that make you uncomfortable doing a show in front of straight people talking about gay sex or gay issues or gay things or things that us in the gay community talk about? Does that make you uncomfortable? And you have to make these jokes in front of the straight community? Well, I've been doing it all my life I guess. So I've somehow been around a lot of straight people growing up there around. Uh there's there's quite a few of them in my family even so I have a little experience with it I guess, so it doesn't make me too uncomfortable. Okay. Okay. Okay. So what city are you most excited to visit if you have to pick a city that you're really excited on this tour for? Which one is it? You have to pick a favorite here? Well, you know, Washington D. C. Really both of my shows sold out in D. C. Very quickly. Uh So I'm I'm I'm really excited to be in a place where people really want me. Um That's good. That's always good when you're wanted. Yeah. Um And then I think I'm really interested to see some place like Orlando. Uh and and my Cities in texas, I'm really excited to see. I haven't been to these places. So I'm wanting to get a taste of it. See what people are like they're Yeah. And by the way, I'm glad you brought up florida because one of the things I really like about your comedy is you use comedy sort of also talk about the pressing issues impacting the L G. B. T. Q community for instance. You have this really funny bit about the don't say gay bill and a bunch of other stuff. So where do you sort of find the balance about being funny but also, you know, not being too serious at the same time here? Yeah, I think that there are people who are advocates that are very serious that do a really good job at it. Uh, and I think my advocacy takes a sort of stance where I have a message. If I sometimes not always not everything I do has to always have a message, but if, if it does, um, it's hidden in a way that's a little tongue in cheek and a little like, oh, I see what you're doing there. Um, and I think for things like that don't say gay bill, the approach that people have republican politicians have in putting these things into place is so ridiculous. It's, it's so absurd, uh, that sometimes we, it kind of speaks for itself, like the comedy is in what's happening. No, very, very true by the way, In addition to being a comedian, you're also a singer. You recently debuted your single Nothing For You and in the video, it's so funny, you're rocking the suit the for no shirt in this thing and everything. Pretty much in between here. How fun was it to sort of make this video? It was really fun. Uh my turn into music has been something that I wanted to sound like a good pop song, something you'd hear on the radio, but if you listen to it, you're like, what, what, what is he saying exactly? And I think being able to dive in fully with nothing for you into this like, pop star vibe was really fun. It was something that I've always wanted to do as a kid and now I was finally able to do it. Wait, so have you always wanted to sort of be like a pop singer? Like have you always wanted to be like the lead guy of a boy band? I mean, I think every I mean every gay guy wants to be a diva, you know, you want to feel it at least a little you know, a lot? We do a lot, a lot by the way, One of your new singles, by the way, so funny. It's called Is your boyfriend single, Is there something behind that story whose boyfriend are you going after in this song? Yeah, I kept running into guys at bars who were so cute and so friendly and charming and funny and we were so engaged and they're literally engaged. Uh and they're like, oh, come meet my boyfriend, my fiance, my husband. And I'm like, again, I just kept happening. And so I wrote a song where I'm at asking the boyfriend like, Hey, is your boyfriend single? So that's where it came about. That is so weird. Okay, so I love her.
