Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds Deploys National Guard to Border

Republican Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa announced that about 100 National Guard troops will be sent to the US Mexico border for August and the operation will use federal funds to pay for it. Reynolds said in a news release, all costs will be covered by federal funding allocated to Iowa from the American rescue plan and states are given flexibility in how this funding can be used provided. It supports the provision of government services end. It does mark the third time since 2020 that Reynolds is sending troops to the US Mexico border with Iowa's neighbor Nebraska also dispatching about 60 troops.
