On the heels of his new music video (that he produced and directed) and preceding the start of his brand new tour, Jake Miller stopped by Cheddar News in New York City to give the team a sneak peek at his upcoming music and shows. Miller gave insight into the creative process that led to the new EP and how he’s bringing his "8 Tattoos" Tour to life on the road. He even treats the team to an in-studio performance of his song of the same name.

just to keep it. Oh yeah, that's the newest music video from Jake miller. Fresh off of the release of the song that you just heard. Keep her. The artist is setting out on tour, Starting tomorrow, right here in new york city. Were so excited about that. And we're joined right now by Jake. Yes, yes, you directed and edited that music video we just saw. Why is it so important to you that you'd be involved on that side of your music and not just maybe hire a video editor or director? Um Yeah, normally I do that, but this time, I don't know, I just kind of I thought of the funny concept of me and my girlfriend dressing up as old people escaping from the hospital. And we just got really excited about it and just kind of snowballed with it. We're like, we're not gonna really use anybody and just do it all. So what was that day like as you mentioned, you and your girlfriend Brandi, who by the way, is here with us here in studio, you guys did all the costumes, all the makeup yourselves. What was the reaction in L. A. When you were just out there filming this thing. No reaction. Not just a normal day, normal day in L. A. No one, no one even blinked an eye, but but it was so much fun. We woke up at like five am. She put old people make up on both of us and we just ran around L. A. For like 12 hours. So what's this on keeper even about? Um has nothing to do with the video. Really? Okay, that was my first thought was like, okay, keeper has something to do with old people, know nothing to do with old people. It's really just, it's, it's basically the lyric is this time I won't mess it up, she's a keeper, I'll do anything to keep her. And so it's like all the things that like, you know, I'll do in our relationship to make sure that I don't lose this person. So it has nothing to do with the video. Let's talk about your tour, you kick it off tomorrow, right here in new york city, it's called eight tattoos tour, but first your first ever show in 2011, you open for Snoop Dogg. That's quite the way to get started. Tell me more about that. And of course your career, ever since it set the bar pretty high. By the way, this is your poster for, back then, by the look with that backwards hat and that, I still got it backwards wearing italian state anymore. Um, yeah, that was, I was a high school kid. I was like, I was a senior in high school and um, a local, like club promoter said, would you want to be one of nine openers for Snoop Dogg and I said obviously yes and um, I had to sell a certain amount of tickets at my high school in order to even be on the bill and I brought a bunch of kids out and it was like the best night ever. So, by the way, the eight lucky fans that are going to this to, to your tour, gonna get tattoos is what I've been told. Is that true? At what I was trying to do every show now, there's kind of covid restrictions and some venues are slowly backing out, but the new york show tomorrow and a few other shows. Yeah, there's gonna be eight people getting tattoos. My friend brian who actually did one of my tattoos, he works here in new york, great tattoo artists and uh it's gonna be, you know, any lyric of their choice of amazing your tattoo, you were just showing us. That's a tour bus, tour bus. So that could be one of the ones that they get, it has to be a lyric anywhere on their body. Yeah. Okay, interesting, interesting. Now I kind of want one, Let's talk about touring. What are your must haves when you're touring? What's in the writer for jake miller in terms of like snacks. I need purple M and N. No, not really. I have, let's see, I have honey and tea, I need that. For sure. We're pretty healthy. Kind bars apple's uh I'm not very fun. Maybe Jamison a bottle of, let's talk about the creative process here because your new ep is coming out here really, really soon. Obviously we heard just the first song there just a moment ago, but what was the creative process here to sort of think of a lot of these new songs. Um, it's kind of just how it always is for me. You know, I just, I'm in L. A. Going to different people's houses or doing it at my place and you know, just, you know, it takes, I would say 20 sessions, 20 songs to come up with like, you know, three or four that I really love. So I've just been writing over the last few months and I'm really excited about this new stuff. Yeah. What's the most challenging part of being a musician today? Jake? The most challenging part. Um, I guess there's just so much competition. Like every day, thousands of people are discovered whether it's on Spotify or Tiktok and you know, you gotta keep up, you gotta stay relevant. So it's tough. But it's, it's fun. It's challenging. Well, I follow you and your sister on Tiktok and you have an amazing account. You have to, oh my God, yeah, By the way, your sister, Jenny Miller, who is a producer here, actually, we love her.
