Jay Cutler on the Toughest Competitor in Charity Cornhole on ESPN8: The Ocho

Welcome max between bells, that's baker um, Hannah each year, ESPN the Ocho takes over ESPN two with an entire day full of programming this time around, it all kicks off today ESPN the Ocho shows lots of different sports that don't typically get a lot of shine this year. Some of the events are acts throwing, which are really good at spike ball and cornhole. Yeah, fans are able to watch two hours of live coverage of the super whole event. This is where groups of celebs are, each could be paired up with an american cornhole league pro all to compete for $100,000 for charity. Those celebs by the way include terry, Kirby mike, the situation from Jersey Shore and our next guest, former NFL quarterback jay Cutler. So we're please be joined by J as well as Stacy moore, the commissioner of the american cornhole league, Great to have both of you here Stacy, let's start with you, What's it mean to be back again doing this and how is this event sort of evolved. Yeah, this event evolved from just being a one time event to a whole series that we decided to give away $100,000 to charity and do multiple events this season leading into our world championships and anchoring today. That sounds incredible Jay. What made you want to get involved with this and what's your strategy when it comes to playing, trying to keep it on the board. Um you know, I played cornhole for a while and you know, you've seen this sport grow so much, it's amazing, I think there's like 3000 people out there. Um, it's on tv, it's on ESPN all the time now, so I'm happy to be involved and these guys are doing some amazing things, so Stacey, when the Osho, when they do this thing on ESPN is so interesting because they play a lot of these sports that a lot of us are really unfamiliar with. Why do you think it's great that ESPN does this for things that we normally wouldn't see? Yeah, I think it's really cool to give these, uh, I guess niche sports or a lot of kind of, I don't know if awkward is the right word, but offbeat sports an opportunity to get the limelight and it's really cool to have them all going on live in Rockville south Carolina today. So you guys mentioned that there's $100,000 cash prize that goes to charity. J What charity are you playing for at the Williamson County animal control. Why did you pick that 1? I mean, I lost a dog about a year ago and you know, I've always been around animals and I think they do a phenomenal job, their intensity. Okay, so Stacey, when people think cornhole, they think maybe college or drinking with their friends, talk about how these professional athletes are really sort of elevating the sport with their techniques because this stuff is actually kind of amazing when you look at it from this perspective. Yeah, I mean, our pros trained just like probably J used to train for football, right? They spend hours and hours a day throwing bags, perfecting their craft, creating new shots. And so just over the past few years we've seen a ton of different shots kind of evolved from our, from our pro players, spend a lot of fun to experience and then watch jay. What would it mean to you to be defending champ? Doug flutie and prove you are the best quarterback in the field. Tell you what? These guys are really good. I mean, terry Kirby is here. He's phenomenal. He's, I think he might be trying to become a pro later this weekend. So these guys are good and I'll tell you what the pros are. I mean it's not even fun to watch them. I mean they're they're dropping them in the hole, I mean left, right. So this support, I think it's involved so much, probably the last six months year year. So it's it's tough, tough competition. J who do you think is your biggest competition, is it Doug flutie or do you think it's mike the situation here? No, Terry Kirby is the best point. Alright, He's odds on favorite. There's, there's no one really probably close to him. He's gonna have to have a bad day for someone to beat him. Okay Stacy. There's a lot of corn hole at my house. If someone out there wanted to join the american cornhole league because we have the official bags, we have the official board, what advice would you give to them? Just find a local director visit. I play cornhole dot com. We have over 400 directors all across the United States running weekly events and so you start there locally and then you can be on the big stage. Right? So J let's talk about your podcast, the uncut podcast. You've had some guests on there from ST seal. You've had some other guests on there as well. Who would be your dream guest? That's so hard. I mean, I think my podcast is we're all over the bathroom, we get, we get everyone, you know, stages on it. We get, I just did brian Urlacher, I got, I got people talking about aliens. I had a Bigfoot expert on it. That's, that's what I kind of love about my you guys were all over the map and hopefully we can start getting some cornhole players on their Well, as we see from this video, I mean, you're always drinking on the show, which is great because we're always usually drinking on this show. Also, what's the go to drink on this J That's, I mean that's the beauty of cornhole, like I'm about to have a beer here as soon as it's done socially, you can have some drinks, you can have some fun and hang out. So it should be a good event today. So beer, Beer is your go to, I mean I wouldn't say it's my go to. Alright so we're never seeing a martini on this and you recently launched an outsider cigar brand. Tell us about that. And how did you, when did you get into cigars? Um I got into scars when I was playing in Miami um and then after that we went down to 20 Republic last november placed about four different ones picked up, picked out, one went back in March and tried it and Hendrick Counter Jr is uh is our producer so we're excited about it, should be launching, just got him in last week, should be launching hopefully this upcoming week but it's a good one.
