Six months after giving birth to a baby boy, former American Idol Jordin Sparks is re-introducing fitness into her daily routine. The "No Air" singer shared her tips with Cheddar on Tuesday for getting motivated to get in shape post-baby.
Mix it Up: Sparks said she doesn't like staying confined to the weight room, so she incorporates dance and cardio fitness into her regimen. "You dance for an hour and you don't even know that it's passed and you've worked out at the same time," she said. The Arizona native also enjoys getting outside and taking hikes.
Find a Workout Buddy - Sparks' husband Dana Isaiah, who works out "religiously" on his own, has been helping her ease back into a fitness routine, while remaining sensitive to her post-baby needs (and joining her in afternoon naps). "He's been really encouraging and inspiring for me," she said.
Focus on Feeling Good - Sparks said her fitness motivation comes from her desire to feel good, rather than just feeling thin. "For me, it's not really about the post-baby snap-back or anything like that, but I want to get back to where I was ー like, my own capacity of what I could do when I was working out," she said. "I loved the way I felt at that time."
Activity Every Day: Sparks also said she makes an effort to work fitness into her daily routine. "I try and do something active every day," she said.
Motivate with Music:"Revolution" by Kirk Franklin and Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" are two songs in frequent rotation on her workout mix, Sparks said. She also admitted to starting the holiday season early by adding some Christmas music to her playlist.
Sparks, whose last album "Right Here Right Now" was released in 2015, said she is working on producing some new music of her own. She's also partnering with Febreze on the #FebrezeYourGear campaign, which is aimed at encouraging gym-goers to use Febreze Fabric Refresher to eliminate odors from workout gear.
