'Joy Ride' Stars Talk About Their New Hijink-Filled Comedy 

Everyone remember their names. Sassy Cuts two. We got this, we got this Joy Ride. A business trip goes sideways, bringing an unlikely group of friends together for the adventure of a lifetime. What did it mean to you to be a part of this project? I mean, I like genuinely was just so happy when I read the script that it was being made like in general and I think I was in disbelief that it was being made. I was in disbelief that I was being cast for it. Um I think I was the first of the four of us cast when Sherry and I read together. I was like, this is it. We we only had met over Zoom when we were like chemistry reading. And I think that even now too, I'm like, wait, is this really coming out? There's like posters everywhere like this is happening. The comedy stars say the bonds you see in the movie were real from the start. Yeah, I mean the chemistry you see on the big screen is real because it was like 0 to 100. Just click from day one. What were your first impressions? How did you guys build that relationship on screen? Oh, my gosh. I mean, my relationship to the three of them at first was, like, I really hope they don't hate me. Like, I really, so, I just feel like we all, like, kind of just transition in and out of being like each other's, like, just like family work buddies, like genuine friends. Like, it's, I don't know. Um, I felt really cared for and that made it easier to be insane in a movie. Yeah, there's a lot of care, a lot of generosity. A lot of like you take that funny line, you do that, like let's do another take for you. Um And you kind of have to be, you know, all four of us, honestly, at some point, we, you know, uh created this unspoken telepathic language. A lot of just like eye contact, nodding and let go beyond the wild hijinks and the rubber and punch lines. Joy Ride explores uncharted territory in Hollywood and deeper themes around identity and belonging. I don't think we've ever seen Asian women or Asian men for that matter, portrayed like this in this film, but it is for sure rated R. Was there any hesitation around this stuff even though it's incredible that it's out there, we all have, you know, our Asian parents who are gonna see this? I also wanna know like, what did your parents say? Everyone thought I was crazy for not telling them anything about the film before they watched it South by Southwest. But I think that I really, and especially because if it was not in the hands of people like, uh Cherry Teresa Nadel. And when I read the script for the first time, as much as I laughed, I've never read versions of the script without crying, especially with Audrey's uh storyline and trajectory. And I thought, um, what's important is that like if, if those scenes that were raunchy and outrageous were the only things as part of the movie, then I wouldn't be, it wouldn't be something I'd be like uh drawn to be a part of. But the fact fact that you got to see uh characters do all of these kinds of, like every montage is a different version of them. Joy Ride is the kind of film that we love watching, you know, especially in the R rated sense for me. I've always been kind of rebellious and, and, and I always tested my mom's li limits um just being like a party animal in my early twenties. My mom was very frustrated with me and like, you know, I was just like a, not the best Chinese daughter. So I'm like, thrilled, thrilled to watch my mom watch it.
