Lahaina Residents Allowed to Tour Wildfire Devastation

Starting today. Residents of Laina in Maui will be allowed back into the area devastated by last month's wildfires. Authorities have divided the area into 17 zones and dozens of sub zones. And for today and tomorrow, residents of the first zone will be allowed in for supervised visits. They will be provided protective equipment to safely look through what's left of their homes. As officials warned they may contain asbestos lead and other toxic materials. The state's governor had this to say about the team overseeing the re entry. They anticipate some people will only want to go for a very short period of time, a few minutes to say goodbye in a way to their property. Others may want to stay several hours. They're going to be very accommodating. Now, nearly 100 people lost their lives in what has become the deadliest wildfire in our country in more than a century.
