Across the country, the debate over critical race theory in K-12 continues. In a recent virtual address, the head of the second-largest teachers' union, the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten told members that the organization is prepared to defend its members who teach "honest history". Her address comes as several states and local schools work to ban critical race theory in classrooms. She adds that this debate has turned into "cultural wars" as a result of Republicans trying to impact the way history of inequality and racism are taught in schools. She joined Cheddar to discuss more.
