Stand-up comic Lewis Black has returned to the stage for a new tour titled ‘Lewis Black: Off The Rails.’ After kicking off the tour earlier this year, the comedian will perform in theaters across the country through May of 2023.  Black joins Trending to dish on what fans can expect from the tour, as well as the upcoming sequel to Pixar's 'Inside Out,' and the current host shake-up at 'The Daily Show.'

Lewis Black Talks Stand-Up Comedy Tour 'Off The Rails' & Sequel to Pixar's 'Inside Out'

our next guest is no stranger to the spotlight. Grammy award winning stand up comic Lewis Black has returned to the stage for a new tour called Lewis Black off the rails and after kicking off the tour earlier this year, the comedian will perform in theaters across the country through May of 2023. So joining us now is the king of rand himself. Lewis Black, thank you so much for joining us. You know, easy. I just take just get into this card that you know, an Uber and got all right, well, you got to start off by telling us about where you're gonna take the Uber to next your stage. What can people expect from your stand up comedy tour? The kind of the really simple, happy, folksy christian based comedy that only a jew has No, I'm it's really uh, I'm just getting started on working on what that tour is, the beginning of figuring out my next special. So what they, I know what they can expect is me yelling and screaming about healthcare. Um, that one is in there for sure. Uh, and and a number of other things that we're not, we're not dealing with immigration, we're not dealing with global, you know, global warming or whatever people want to call it, because you're supposed to call it something so that people will not get upset about it, but I think we all agree now that something's up. So I'm talking about the fact that we have all these problems, we deal with none of them and we focus on things that have nothing to do with it. Well you mentioned the special and this is all preparation for the special that's gonna be coming out and you actually taped it in new york already earlier this year. Yeah, there's a special that's coming out. That's based on the I did especially I did especially in the last night to you about two years ago now, the last May, March 14th, um March 13th of 2020 I did a special that we didn't think we'd be doing is the last show that I performed until I performed again. It was the shutdown occurred literally three days later. Well can you give us any details? When can we see it? But I don't know because you know, we have to go as you know, working in this business now. I gotta go to places and go, are you gonna put the special on? I I promise you the special beyond it will probably be on at least hopefully in the next six weeks. Okay, so we're just waiting for it. We're waiting and don't worry and I'll be back. You live in the neighborhood. That's true. And until then people can listen to your podcast where you really get it all out, Lewis Black, the rant cast. So talk to us about how you actually take this opportunity for people to come on the radio show, They give this long rant and then you incorporate into your stand up. Do you have any examples of? No, I do. And I also, it's what happens is is what's even more unique. I think about it is I read those rants, I do my show and then people who are in the audience or people around the world send in rants to me. I read those, their rants live on stage. We have a satellite feed and it goes throughout the world. Well, I didn't realize it was la it was, that's a lot that parts live. Then we put it together, take the best, put it into a rand cast. I do an introduction and but but we do it every night, every night. I have a live show for at least 20 minutes to a half an hour that goes throughout the entire world working about. Well, well, the ones that I really liked that we've had was somebody, uh, somebody you know yelled about, someone opened a jar of what they thought was smooth, peanut butter was chunky. Oh, I can't do that and complete seven minutes yelling about it. And then people writing back, no, you idiot, chunky is the best years. Why? You know, I've had people yelling about pickles do like chunky peanut butter. I will say, okay, all right, well, we got to talk about the daily show because so many fans love you and know you from that show and you are like the longest running contributor on the show since it started and Trevor Noah just announced that he's gonna be leaving the show and they may replace him with a cast of people instead of just one host. So, do you have any insight on that? And do you hope it's you are you vying for that job? I'm gonna be. This is the most honest I can be. They have never asked me to get near that seat because they know if they put me in that seat, I will I'll rule the world, I over the world be it would be good for the world to be good. But no, they don't, but I will see what, where they go. I have no idea. Trevor came out of really know where nobody knew so well see all I asked them really and I keep yelling. I've been on the show 25 years. Let me sit there once, let me just do well let's have a fake audition you And pretend like I might be and then go we found somebody younger that's all you gotta do. It's not tough, right? I think once that you sit in that seat, they're gonna be like, Okay, he's got it. So it's not gonna happen. Thank you. Well, one thing that definitely is going to happen is inside out sequel. You know the 2015 film was so popular. My kids love it. They don't know what you but they love your voice, they love your angry character. So what can we expect with the sequel? Well, I just did a while ago, I did the first run of their uh my character, anger and uh and had some sense of where we're going. The new characters. The new emotions uh is Riley has grown up the uh the uh the young girl who were inside her head, there's uh there's new emotions and uh I think it's I think they're they've got a really great story going and I'm not blowing smoke because when I read the first one, when we first did the first one, I thought, wow, their first draft, I thought this is going I'm gonna be in the first bomb Pixar has ever done initially. Initially I said because I said I never said it to them, but I went, wow, this isn't, I don't see how they're going to pull this off. Then I came back because you kind of do it. It's five years from the time they started, Wow that long and it's still relevant. It has won an Oscar, it's got a 98% rating on rotten tomatoes, which is better than most films were. You surprised once you finally found how popular it became? No, not once once we were rolling along. I I'm not a genius, but every so often I can recognize something that's gonna break through and the fact that we were talking about something that nobody talked about. I mean when I was a kid. The only emotion I had was I thought maybe hunger was an emotion. We didn't talk about what we felt. And it kind of, living in the United States at this point, living in our country, it's going in the madness. You think if all of a sudden people can stop and go, oh, let's watch this for a while, that we would be, you think we'd be better off than we are? But I think maybe inside out to will get things going? Yeah, well, we're glad that you can express our anger for us and we can't wait to see inside out too as well as you on tour.
