While there are countless wearable devices for adults, not many on the market are made for kids. Cheddar News speaks with Monica Plath, CEO of Littlebird Connected Care, the world's only toddler tracking device to discuss its many benefits. 

Littlebird Toddler Tracking Device to Give Parents Peace of Mind

it's the closing bell and cheddar news. Everyone in the past decade, numerous gadgets and wearables have come to market that help adults monitor their health location and even sleep patterns, but none are made to fit Children when it could give parents a peace of mind when they're away. So this is what my next guest noticed and decided to start her own company. That makes one. So joining me now is Monica play founder and Ceo of little bird connected care Monica. It's great to have you on the show. I want you to talk to me more about this tracking device. Little Bird Yeah. No, this was founded purely out of my own personal need. I'm a mother of two toddlers ages two and almost four. And I tried to purchase this product. Um, in a moment of fear when I had a caregiver that left my house, my cameras weren't picking her up. My wifi, you know, just that like connectedness of my whole family. Um, I had no way to contact her. She wasn't answering her phone. And I was like, you know, I'm just gonna buy something. So I know where my kids are, um, how they're doing and who they're with. And that just started my mission. We hacked a product that didn't provide us what we needed the peace of mind. And so now we have basically one of the first of its kind toddler trackers on the market. It's got its own sailor plan. It's bluetooth enabled and we have a GPS in there So you can find them anywhere in the world, wow talk to me more about how it works and the ease of use for young Children whether or not this is user friendly and something that they want to actually wear. Yeah, no, we tested it with initially just 12 kids like will a toddler wear a wearable? That was like a big question I had in my own mind and um all of them did, especially if their parents were, you know big Apple watch or a Fitbit wears themselves. It was just kind of that modeling behavior and so now that we've gone through the design process, we just used toddlers, caregivers and parents and made it as intuitive as possible. We used um similar gestures from twitter instagram facebook. So that would be really easy to access and go through and understand contacting your caregiver. We really wanted to close the care circle and make it more of a triangle, you know, like more transparency and accessible. It's an open dialogue as it should be. That shouldn't be like, oh I feel bad on bothering the parent, which was a big concern that we heard and the parent like oh I don't want to bother the nanny when she should be watching my kids that we just wanted when it was convenient. People could interact and have a timeline through the day so you can feel President all apart. How do you make sure that the data is secure. Of course we always worry about protection and privacy not just for us as adults but really for the safety of our family as well as a mom privacy and security is my top concern as well. And so we used secure and encrypted chips and we also use government level encryption across our entire platform. What's the price of one of these devices? It's 2 99 and that was just going off of the infant wearables that are currently in the market and that are selling and then staying low lower than what some of the adult products were. I just wanted something that people could grow into and could use for a long term period of time and adapt to how they use it within their family. Is it right for everyone? Perhaps not but for the parents that need something like this, it's a really great fit and for updates, I'm sure they can happen just over the air. Software updates. Is that the case? Yeah, absolutely. We have software updates that happen in real time. Our hardware, you know, we get firmware updates. Everything is except that we're on the app store right now in our initial early launch. What was shipping for holiday season And do you expect holiday sales to be strong? I would hope so. I know that I want one. Um and my kids, all my family, I mean my kids are wearing them and it's really fun to see and interact and like see that technology alive and being a part of, you know, we have new caregivers coming in and Yeah, it's fun to share. I'm happy to send you it if you have anyone that, you know, might need one, Oh, I like, I like that. I might have to take you up on that. But talk to me more about the ecosystem, right? The software suite here. How you're hoping to keep parents and even young Children engaged and grow the product and the ecosystem going forward? Yeah, I think it's right now it's more word of mouth and we're just having conversations with parents to make it as seamless as possible and understand it. You have your toddler wears it and um, it's connected to the parent app and the caregivers app. So if there's ever a bluetooth tether break, you get notified. So it's more of a awareness. We're not doing alerts were doing decision supports, you have all the biometrics, you can do like the Fitbit stats. We have parents are like, oh my gosh, no wonder I'm so tired. My kid did 15,000 steps today and then others that really dislike knowing where their child is. Okay. So, and so pick them up and that's that peace of mind for them. So however it adapts best for your family. Does it go so far as to attract biometrics, even like heart rate, we have heart rate, a sleep activity monitor and then we have mood inputs. So we're able to provide like, oh, how are they doing just to like in for the well being. And we can attach photos so you can get those candids, you know, you don't want just the one glory shot. I want the messy, I want the uncomfortable. I just want to see what my child is doing when we're apart. I mean, there's 67% of working moms, um, you know, have alternative care for their kids. We can't be there all the time. And there's that level of mom guilt. So being able to have that, you know, serenity and contact and just feel like we're there is important. All right.
