Gil Addo, co-founder & CEO of RubiconMD, and fellow co-founder and COO Carlos Reines join Cheddar to discuss how their medical platform helps bring specialized care to patients in need. They explain that specialty care isn't readily available in many parts of the country and they are trying to bridge that gap. According to the company, 40% of all specialty care visits are avoidable and 10% of referrals go to the wrong specialty. In 20% of referrals, labs and imaging are duplicated or unnecessary, often resulting in additional specialist visits. So how does the platform work specifically? Primary care doctors input patient information into the system, and a specialist can respond within hours. The specialists on the platform are paid for their time. Addo and Reines say this platform aims to eliminate the overhead costs of setting up another appointment or running multiple tests.
