raising $150 million dollars in a Series C funding round led by Revolution Growth.  Chipotle also participated in the round via its's new venture fund, Cultivate Next.  Meati Foods says it makes a new type of meat made from nutrient-rich mushroom root, and that it's working to change the way people eat by democratizing access to high-quality protein in a way that protects and preserves our planet.  Tyler Huggins, co-founder and CEO of Meati Foods, joins Cheddar News' Closing Bell to discuss.

Meati Foods Raises $150M to Accelerate Production of Mushroom-Root Meats

Welcome back to cheddar news everyone. Alternative. Protein maker Media Foods raising 100 and 50 million in a series C round led by Revolution Growth at Chipotle also participating in this round via its new venture fund called cultivate next. Well meaty Food says it makes a new type of meat made from nutrient rich mushroom root. And the company's products recently got a big endorsement from celebrity chef David Ching, take a look. This is delicious when I tasted it and I cooked it for the first time. It wasn't like anything I had before in the sense of a meat alternative because it cooked like meat. My real aha moment wasn't the deliciousness of media. It was the fact that producing media was extremely efficient and effective way. Alright, well joining me now is Tyler Huggins co founder and Ceo of Media. Tyler thanks so much for coming on the show. Does this taste like real meat? It is absolutely delicious. Yeah, I'm happy to talk about it. Thanks for having me. Okay so tell me more about it. How do you create this? And how does the taste differ or how is it similar to me? Yeah, it's a really simple all natural process. We essentially take mushroom root um naturally occurring, we bring it indoors and we cultivate it and then we gently form it flavor it and it's ready to cook awesome eating experience. Has the fiber, the juiciness that you find in animal based meat cooks the same way you can grill it, you can fry it. Uh And the nutritional profile is is really the key here. I mean this is debatable, one of the most nutritious foods out there. Uh and a great eating experience. So truly good for people good for the planet. So I see the companies based in Boulder colorado. I know there's a lot of cool food innovation happening over there in Boulder colorado. But give me more of the science behind this. How can you claim that it is extremely nutritious and healthy for everyone to eat Well, it has all the protein you would find an animal based products. So tons of protein, all your vitamin B's, your eye and your zinc. Those are nutrients that we want from animal based products. But then a ton of other fiber and vitamins and minerals you only find in plants and this one product with a truly really unmatched nutritional profile. Okay, so what am I seeing here? A crispy cutlet, classic steak, classic cutlet. Are those the main offerings right now? Yeah, these are core three. We have another one on the way to a marinated carne, Asada steak that has been getting rave reviews now Chapel, an investor in this round. So that's a huge I think stamp of approval Tyler any plans as to when your products might be making their way to chipotle stores near us. Yeah, I mean the chapel. Um, investment is a big signal. I mean they've really been sort of the trailblazers in the space of food innovation and nutrition And so you know, having us be one of the first companies they've, they've invested in in this new round is a huge signal.
