Next year will bring more upheaval to the media industry, but Gabriella Schwarz, the managing editor of Flipboard, is an optimist. She thinks trends in immersive content, from long-form video to annotated text, will drive growth in digital media, as consumers clamor for more high-quality "deep dive" content. Part of that will be the continued development of VR and AR as a way to tell certain stories, she said. She's also optimistic about trends in local journalism, personalization, and the fight against fake news.
