Now that Thanksgiving is over, the holiday season is in full swing. Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds are getting into the holiday spirit with their new Apple TV+ musical comedy 'Spirited.' For the first time, 'A Christmas Carol' is told from the perspective of the ghosts in this hilarious musical twist on the classic Dickens tale. Cheddar sat down with the mastermind behind the moves in the film, lead choreographer, Chloe Arnold

Meet Lead Choreographer For Apple TV+ Film, 'Spirited'

now switching gears now that thanksgiving is over the holiday season is in full swing, Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds are getting into the holiday spirit with their new apple tv musical comedy spirited and you tap dancing spin on the Charles, dickens, christmas, carol, take a look at, how did you know all that? I didn't, I was just following you, I'm following me. Yeah, I got my messed up in the middle of the tap is new for me, it's a very expressive medium joining us now is the mastermind behind the moves in the film. Lead choreographer, Chloe Arnold, So first Chloe, congratulations on the film, how are you able to land the opportunity to work on Spirited. Well, thank you so much for having me. It is an absolute dream come true and it came actually out of a combination of things um through my television work on the Late Late Show with James corden, I have been Emmy nominated but then through my creative works with my sister Mod Arnold, we created a company, an all female tap dancing band called Syncopated Ladies and that work has reached 100 million people. Thanks to artists like Beyonce and so when our director saw the combination of the work that I've done in television along with the unique lens that we have in the work of tapia syncopated ladies, he was really sold on the idea of trying something new now you were discovered at a young age by none other than Debbie Allen and have trained as well as you perfected your craft since then. So how do you think all of that work prepared you for a project of this magnitude. Well working with Debbie Allen is the absolute training. She is the master of all things in the realm of dance and entertainment. And so she really raised me to a, have the skill set in multiple styles of dance which has helped my career in television and also infused that with the way that we express ourselves in our tap shoes. And I think that's what makes what we do unique. In addition, she, you know, taught me to work under high pressure to be confident, to be unapologetically myself and to believe in that which doesn't exist yet. And I think that really is the key in this movie, was having the courage to, to try new things to adventure and to just not be afraid to present these, you know, ideas and and a new way of doing things. Now. You've worked with names like Will Ferrell, Ryan Reynolds and even Octavia Spencer for this film. What was it like to work with them And were they able to catch onto that choreography? Well, so working with Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer all geniuses. In addition, they have hearts of Gold And when I say that I'm not just saying that I was with them for seven months and in that time we honestly became family. They worked hard, They dedicated themselves to learning an entirely new skill after already being masters in what they do. And I think that vulnerability that care the kindness was absolutely incredible. I mean they came to the dance studio like dancers, you know, ready to work and ready to be challenged. And what's so impressive is that they rose to the occasion and you know, over the weeks and the months of preparing, they nailed it. They never complained, they never said can we do less? They just were here for the adventure and it's just so appreciated, you know, that they had so much respect for me as the, you know, in in leadership, but also for the craft, the art and the dancers. Now you listen Emma Byrd B Mitchell and Martha Nichols who are two black women as associate choreographers. What's the significance of black women leading a creative team for a major holiday movie. It was very important to me when I got this, you know, incredible opportunity to make sure that my court team could would execute the vision that I had for the picture. And for me, you know, I look historically at representation and black women in these positions of leadership. And it's so few and far between that I thought to myself, why would I not bring along the people that inspire me the people that I know can execute. And so it's amazing when I presented my team to, you know, productions are directors producers, they were fully on board and I think it's just so beautiful the way that Black Girl Magic embraced, trusted and supported. And I think it's it speaks to, you know, a new a new chapter, turn a new a new book honestly. Where there, unfortunately, today, but I'm really glad to hear the story and everyone should definitely check out movies too, thanks to spirited lead choreographer Chloe Arnold.
