More Gay and Bisexual Men Can Now Donate Blood

Starting today, the Red Cross will begin allowing more gay and bisexual men to donate blood. This comes after a move by federal authorities earlier this year changed a long standing restriction against it. All people who wish to donate will subject to a risk assessment questionnaire of recent sexual activity aimed at reducing the risk of disease transmitted through transfusions. The FDA began putting restrictions on donations from gay and bisexual men in the 19 eighties during the height of the HIV AIDS crisis.
