Morning Tea: Emmy Snubs and Surprises That Got People Talking

At your morning tea, the latest entertainment in celebrity news. And we got to talk yesterday about the any nominations including some many unexpected and expected nominations. Let's start with the expected part. Successions final season got the most 27 nominations, the most of any drama and three nominations alone for best actor in a drama. You have Brian Cox Jeremy Strong and Kieran Colin all in the same category and almost the entire cast was nominated in various categories as well. Meanwhile, on the comedy side, Ted Lasso got 21 nominations, the most of any comedy and it's of course, believed to be the show's last season as well. Now people turning their attention to the shows and people who weren't nominated the snubs in the top of that list. The Kevin Coster Drama Yellowstone, incredibly popular but shut out of all nominations. The Taylor Sheridan created drama has never received a primetime Emmy Award nomination in any of the major categories. Also snubbed Harrison Ford, who stars in the Yellowstone prequel in 1923 and he's also in the comedy shrinking. He was considered an early favorite to win there as well. But let's go back to the Brian Cox situation because we all know no spoiler here. He's not in the very many episodes of succession season two or three. So a lot of people are upset that somehow he got into that category. He won it a few years ago. Deserve that. But it got me thinking, what is the shortest amount of time for somebody to ever win? Judy Dench in 1999 won an Oscar for best supporting actress. She was in Shakespeare in love for a whopping eight minutes of the movie. And she, no, she got an Oscar. She won the Oscar and Emmy nomination by the way for Ellen Burston. She got a best supporting actress, Emmy nomination for Mrs Harris. She was only in it for 14 seconds. Which is great. Exactly. He absolutely deserves. Yellowstone is interesting. I thought people love that it, oh, it's one of the highest rated shows out there. I mean, it gets four or five times the audience that succession does, but it's not so much a critical darling as much as succession is which I think is interesting, but there were some also surprises. A major plot twist. Survivor made it come back to the nominations for a nod for outstanding Competition program. This is a surprise guys because Survivor hasn't been nominated in this category since 20 or 2, 2006. Even longer. Yankovic was nominated for the first time ever for outstanding TV movie. The parody singer's Weird story was a Roku original starring Daniel Radcliffe. There was also a surprise nomination for Carry Russell for outstanding lead actress in a drama series in the Diplomat over on Netflix. The political drama was popular but variety noted that Russell beat out incredible performances from Imelda Stanton in the crown and Helen Mirren in 1923. Neither of whom got a nomination. The other big surprise in the comedy series category, jury duty. Our favorite show that getting a nomination you have James Marsden also getting a nomination as well. The first time Freebie has ever been nominated for an Emmy Award. I mean, it just goes to show people like good content, good content. It doesn't matter where they're watching it. If they like to show they're going, you get this nomination here as well for wear it out so true. Let's talk about Reese Witherspoon. She's an Oscar winner, isn't she is ok? She's the best actress. She's opened up about her recent divorce from husband Jim Toth in an interview with Harper's. She's on the cover of August 2023 the magazine and she revealed quote, it's a vulnerable time for me. She said it feels much more authentic to be able to say things in my own voice and not let somebody else control what's happening. She went on to say, of course, there's speculation, but I can't control that. She and her husband announced they were going to go their separate ways back in March. She compared this divorce to her first one from Brian Phillipe saying back then the tabloid media got to tell people how she was feeling and it felt very out of control. I think thanks to social media, I would like to think that a lot of these celebrities have a little bit more say of what people are saying about them. But it's really good to be Bruce Bruce Witherspoon right now with all the success of her acting and her production. We've been good guys.
