Musician Layke on How Working With Snoop Dogg Impacts Their Sound

That's our next guest, the multifaceted artist known in the dream pop genre as late a unique sound and style has skyrocketed them in the music world and they show no signs of slowing down. I sat down with the artists in Lake to talk about their newest ep frequency. Working alongside Snoop Dogg of all people and what's next? Take a look So Lake your career has been taking off. You even worked with worked with the legendary Snoop Dogg on a remix of marshmallow and still is happier. How does working with an artist like Snoop Dogg really impact your sound? I mean working with Snoop Dog was such a great experience. He was such an awesome human to work with. He was one of the nicest most. He made me feel so comfortable. Um Honestly because you were high we might have just a little bit. I was really nervous honestly because he is such a legend and you don't wanna look like a fool standing next to Snoop and he's so cool. But he was so easy to work with and you know he really helped evolve the song and he added a bunch of ad Libs that we did not expect in the studio and it was really really cool experience. And then after growing up in Dallas moving to L. A. For your career and now working with Snoop Dogg on your newest E. P. Do you ever have to like pinch yourself or was there a pinch myself moment, definitely. I mean coming from Dallas texas. I definitely never dreamed that I would end up in L. A. Somehow working with a legend like that. So definitely I am very very very grateful to be where I am at. Yes we got to talk about your new album frequency because I know you heard I heard you talking about it before and you said that it was taking you out of your comfort zone. Something a little bit different. So what can we frequency it has? You know it's a very electronic based there's a lot of synthesizers and drum machines we use like The Prophet and that'll be one. And a lot of things that I've never really experimented with. It really did make me grow because there's there's so many different buttons and toys and synthesizers are so interesting. You know I spent so many years scared of them and now I'm just loving it's like it's like a Playland every time you go to the studio. Okay And it seems like you're gonna be getting into remixing more. You're now remixing the ep. Tell me about that. That is exciting because I've never actually done remixing before of any of my songs. So I'm starting to work with some DJs out in L. A. That um you know do different types of styles like hyper pop and various other styles. So I'm really excited about that. That sounds exciting. But explain for those who don't know maybe how your music sounds the vibe the feel of it. Its alternative pop dream pop you know it's in the pop world but it's definitely got an edge and a lot of like ethereal nous to it and definitely a lot of depth in the layers of the sense and the sounds. Yeah. Well it seems like the L. G. B. T. Q. Community really loves it because you finished off your summer headlining the pride festival down there. What was that experience like and why do you think the L. G. B. T. Q. Community gravitates to your music? Well I'm pansexual, bisexual individual myself so I'm part of the community. So so um I think that naturally it's just a space that I feel so comfortable and I love to be in and playing D. T. L. A. Pride was so fabulous. I hadn't been on stage since before pandemic. Like I've done some live streams and stuff but I hadn't been a live performance. So you could just feel the energy and the love from everybody and from the allies from the community. It was fabulous and just so how do you think or how do you hope your music will be interpretive from everyone? Not just the L. B. T. Q. Community. My music is for everybody when I wrote this ep I wrote it over the course of 2020 and 2021 it was sort of a dichotomy of what I think a lot of people were going through. You know, half of it is about my mental health struggles with anxiety and half of it was dance pops from dancing around the living room. And so I think that, you know, it's while I maybe L G B T Q individual, my music is for everyone and I think everybody can find something in it. Why did you choose to be so transparent in your music? Some people shy away from that. And it's like, no, I'm just creating art. I think that the pandemic really put it in perspective for me that people were going through so much and you know, as an artist, I feel like you have a platform and you can help people relate and understand that it's okay to reach out for help. That it's okay to say that I am having a hard time and struggling, that's really important. And if they can see, you know, individuals in the music industry and entertainment industry having those, you know, we're just normal people and we struggle to, you know, and other people helping other people understand that it is important, so important. Glad you're putting that message out there and I know a lot of people want to know besides the new ep frequency, what's next, what's what can you expect? Maybe a tour? I am actually we're currently in talks of booking a tour. So I'm very excited about that, that's we're getting on now. The remixing is something that is going to take the next few months for me. I really want to take the holidays to dig into that, because, like I said, I've never done that, and really just getting, you know, the message out there about what I'm trying to advocate for, which is really to talk about mental health awareness and you know, that it is okay to reach out for help if you need it.
