Joanna Lydgate, the co-founder and CEO of States United Democracy Center and former chief deputy attorney general of Massachusetts, joined Cheddar to discuss President Biden's speech from Philadelphia on protecting voting rights. Biden's "moral case" for voting rights comes amid a spate of new voting restrictions and regulations being added in states by largely GOP lawmakers. Lydgate praised the actions of the Biden administration so far and acknowledged the actions of the Texas Democrats who recently fled their state in order to stymie new election laws being pushed through in a special session. "They are telling us how high the stakes are at this moment," she said. "They are telling us that we need national action."
