  • Kushner Clearance: President Trump reportedly ordered that his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner be given a top-secret security clearance despite objections from intelligence officials and his own lawyer. Then chief-of-staff John Kelly was said to be so rattled by the request that he wrote a memo saying he was made to do it. Read more here.

  • India-Pakistan: Pakistan is releasing an Indian fighter pilot it had been holding as a “peace gesture.” The move released some of the pressure in the escalating crisis between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Read more here.

  • Legal Marijuana: Sen. Cory Booker has reintroduced a bill that would legalize marijuana across the country. The “Marijuana Justice Act” would legalize pot by removing it from the list of controlled substances. The presidential hopeful first introduced the legislation in 2017. Read more here.

  • Pedestrian Deaths: The number of pedestrians killed by cars in the U.S. reached a nearly 30-year high and researchers believe smartphones and SUVs have something to do with it.   • Amazon Day: Amazon will now allow Prime members to designate one day of the week, dubbed “Amazon Day,” in which all their packages will arrive together. The initiative could help both Amazon and customers: for those worried about theft, they can choose a day they know they’ll be home. For Amazon, the fewer shipments will save on costs.   • MLB: The most coveted free agent in baseball has a home. Bryce Harper agreed to sign with the Phillies for a record $330 million over 13 years. The deal, with no opt-out clause, will keep Harper in the National League for the rest of his career. Read more here.

  • NFL: Former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is coming out of retirement and will play another season with his former team.
