Need2Know: California Firefighters Face Better Conditions Against Oak Fire, Pope Apologizes For 'Deplorable Evil' Of Indigenous Abuse, Russia Threatens To Cut Back Natural Gas Exports

Let's start with that huge wildfire raging near Yosemite National Park in California. The oak fire has destroyed nearly 17,000 acres and that's forcing thousands to flee their homes. Firefighters are getting some help from the weather. It's now 16% contained the oak fire. The largest fire currently burning in the Golden State, which is in the middle of a historic drought. And Pope Francis is in Canada where he made a historic apology monday for what he called the deplorable evil of indigenous abuse. The Canadian catholic residential schools Francis said, quote I humbly beg forgiveness for the evil committed by so many christians against indigenous peoples. Last year hundreds of unmarked graves were discovered on the grounds of the former residential schools in Western Canada. Now, the America First Policy Institute is a conservative think tank founded and run by a bunch of former trump Administration officials. It's designed to advance the policy agenda associated with trump and the make America great Again movement now trump famously came into office without much of a policy agenda or plan. So these officials are trying to create some lasting impact for the policies trump and his advisers favor. Now we don't know exactly what the former president will talk about, but politico reported monday that some advisers and other republicans hope the remarks We'll go closely to the priorities of the summit, but Trump is famously unpredictable. So we're gonna have to watch out for that. His remarks are also coming at a time where his future with the party is uncertain. A recent poll from the New York Times and Sienna College found 46% of Republicans would prefer a candidate not named Donald Trump to be their nominee in 2024 despite that he's still the most powerful figure in the party today and we can expect he'll flex that power today. Well, Ariel, everyone is watching the former president for a potential run for the White House in 2024. Is it possible that he announces that today? I think that's what everyone's eyes are on at this point, it is possible that he potentially announces that trump has recently hinted that he's already made up his mind at 2024. And the only thing left to do is decide whether to do it before or after the midterm elections. He did say just last week that while he's ready to go, republicans need to win back majorities in Congress first indicating that he's leaning towards waiting to announce, but once again, he's unpredictable.
