Now, this new order comes amid the high profile case of W. N. B. A. Star Brittney Griner back in May. The bio administration updated its classification of Griner to reflect that it considers her unlawfully detained in Russia after being found with hashish oil in her luggage when traveling out of the country. Griner is among the most high profile americans to be recently detained in a foreign country and her case is in the spotlight while watching a Russia's war in Ukraine Griner and her family have appealed directly to President biden to do all he can to bring her home. So of course we have to look into this order. This order takes aim american hostages held abroad or those the US considers unlawfully detained. It also allows federal agencies to impose penalties like financial sanctions against those who take part in hostage taking or unlawful detention. It also comes alongside a new directive from the State Department to add a travel advisory with the letter D telling americans traveling abroad that a country carries a risk of unlawfully detaining american citizens now is this order going to help bring Brittney Griner or other americans held abroad any sooner? Probably not. But advocates and experts in the space are saying it's a step in the right direction now. Meanwhile, Ariel, several Democratic lawmakers yesterday were arrested during a protest on Capitol hill. What happened there? Yes, so more than a dozen lawmakers were arrested Tuesday during an abortion rights protest in front of the Supreme Court wearing specifically made green bandanas with the quote won't back down.
