Need2Know: Maxwell Sentenced, Jan. 6 Committee & AirBnB Party Ban

Elaine Maxwell, the former socialite who conspired with financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually exploit and abuse underage girls, some as young as 14 was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday. There's still a lot of work to be done on this issue. But in this fight we need to celebrate the victories and today this is a big victory. Now, it was a much shorter sentence that the government had recommended. Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking and other counts back in december, prosecutors said, quote years of sexual abuse, multiple victims, devastating psychological harm. None of this could have happened without Glenn Maxwell and the Supreme Court's decision on abortion continues to echo across the country. At this point, most states are engaged in abortion debates, judges in texas Utah and Louisiana. All states with trigger laws have lifted abortion bans temporarily. States like florida and indiana are looking to tighten restrictions on abortion while governors in Nevada and California are using executive orders to protect people seeking the procedures. Meanwhile, CVS and rite aid are limiting purchases of the so called morning after pill due to high demand. Meanwhile, eight states held primary or runoff elections yesterday, the first elections in the country since the Supreme Court overturn roe v wade in colorado's third house district Lauren bober, the conservative freshman member of Congress, she's projected to win the Republican primary. There. Meanwhile, here in new york governor Kathy khokha will win the Democratic nomination. She's going to face off in november with Representative lee Zeldin, he secured the Republican nomination and the world of politics has waking up this morning and it's waking up after a bombshell revelations in Tuesday's surprise, january 6th hearing. Yeah, indeed. So let's go straight to aerial Hickson who's covering that for us on Capitol Hill. Good morning, Ariel, Good morning, baker and Hannah. So the january 6th hearing yesterday, including bombshell after bombshell. So much tea was spilt. We've got to break it all down Cassidy Hutchinson, the former principal aide to former White House Chief of staff. Mark Meadows is the 1st january sixth witness to testify in these public hearings who had an up close and personal look at what President trump was saying and doing. On january 6th, she told the committee that trump knew many of his supporters had weapons on the six, but that he still wanted them to attend his rally at the ellipse. She also said that the President desperately wanted to go to the capitol and when Secret Service told him no, Hutchinson said trump grabbed at the steering wheel of the car and then at the throat of the Secret Service agent who stopped him. She also painted a picture of a violent and angry president in the lead up to the six, She said at one point he threw his lunch at the wall and broke dishes when he was told his attorney General had said that the election was not stolen. Hutchinson told the committee that overall, she was get this horrified and disgusted at what happened that day. Take a listen as a staffer that works to always represent the administration the best of my ability and to showcase the good things that he had done for the country. I remember feeling frustrated, disappointed and really it felt personal. It was really sad as an american. I was disgusted. Now this testimony is key because Hutchinson was a longtime Meadows Aid. So many republicans on the hill know her and that has helped her testimony land with a larger number of people than testimonies in past hearings. So Ariel given the bombshells in this testimony, will the committee try for more hearings soon? No new hearings have been announced. So we're expecting nothing more until after Congress returns from the july 4th recess in the week of july 11th. I'm telling you now, all eyes are definitely open after this testimony. Absolutely. JD Power has just released their year. Initial quality study. It found vehicle quality declined 11% this year that amid part shortages and shipping problems. That's the biggest decline in the survey's history Buick Dodge and Chevrolet topped the list. Volvo and Chrysler and every Newcomer Pole Star were at the bottom of the rankings based on survey responses of new car buyers and leases. Meanwhile, bed bath and beyond has seen cooling sales lately and their stores might be heating up A new report from Bank of America is claiming that the company has cut air conditioning that to quickly lower expenses to make up for a sales slump. The company representative, however, telling CNN, quote no bed bath and beyond stores were directed to adjust their air conditioning. There has been no corporate policy changes in regards to utilities usage. So far, sales of the retailer dropped 22% last quarter. Finally, the days of partying at Airbnb s officially over, that's because the company is making their ban on parties permanent. Now, back in 2020 Airbnb banned parties at homes on their platform that to help curb the spread of Covid. But since that implemented they implemented that policy, Airbnb has now seen a 44% drop in the rate of party reports year over year. The company also plans to scrap their 16 person limit that would allow bigger homes to be fully booked.
