New Augmented Reality Glasses Allow Deaf Users to 'See' Conversations

Shannon and I had the opportunity to sit down to learn all about the future of Ai glassware, that with the Chief science advisor for xR a eyeglass keith dugger. It was actually pretty cool, take a look at this. Yeah, and we're excited about these glasses, you brought their like the newest innovation for your company or whatever you guys are doing there, it's actually helping the deaf community be able to take part in this augmented reality experience, can tell us a little bit more about your glasses. Yeah, so the the glasses are manufactured by a company called in Real, so they make the hardware and as you said, they're augmented reality glasses, so what that means is they can take your view of the world and they can impose upon artificial creations in a in a kind of virtual reality and in fact even track your motions and you can interact with the things that you see there. Um so what we've done, what XR AI has done, and we sometimes call it x ray too, by the way, so just uh so what we've done at X ray is we've we've created the software that runs in the in real platform currently and it can listen to the sounds that are around you and take the speech that it hears and in real time, transcribe it for you so that you can read what's being said there, so it'll say like speaker one said this, you know, speaker to you said that, and by the way this is all connected also to your phone. Do you have to have a special app for this as well, you have to have our app, you have to install the X ray application software on your smartphone in order to experience the I want to see how we should actually put this on right now, Shannon, you're going to be the guinea pig in this situation here and they're pretty stylish. Yeah, they are, I mean look, they don't look like google glass, which I guess is a win here, it's been sitting there for a little while, so you just got to unplug the cable, so keith, how long was this sort of project in development? How long were you guys working on something like this? Well, believe it or not, I think in terms of actively developing and coding, it's only been maybe two or three months. Okay, so as you mentioned, you're basically having conversations with this thing and it's basically translating it. What exactly do the words are popping up? Yeah, what does that tell us exactly what you're seeing right now. Okay, I'm saying that's not a home page, but I can see this, it's almost like a desktop of your computer, but I can also see through it, so it's not like that's the only thing I can see some augmented glasses, right, so you can still see past it past it, but I I also see it on the screen and I'm using this as like a wand to touch things and to connect with whatever app that I want to open. But the cool part is especially for the deaf community, if somebody's talking, you can see like the close caption right there on the screen. And the other thing is you can have multiple conversations, right, well you can it can read multiple people speaking if they talk over each other, if they're talking at the same time, you know, we've got a bit of an issue there and kind of separating out that speech and over time will develop more technology to handle that, so it identifies who's speaking, but what about people who speak maybe different languages or somebody who might have a thick accent. Well the beauty of this is we're leveraging the state of the art, Cloud technologies, so any languages that are understood by, by the big cloud platforms, Microsoft google can likewise be transcribed here and even translated, and it's incredible because obviously there's so many advanced advancements in technology that might seem troublesome for a lot of people, but this is amazing and this will obviously help so many people such a pleasure to have you here, Kate for joining us and stopping by and showing us this amazing thing, by the way, you can also watch music videos on this, I'm watching, I'm watching, I'm watching a Shakira music video as we are doing this interview right now, thank you so much for joining us and our thanks to keith dugger, chief science Advisor for XR A eyeglass.
