New Documentary 'Stephen Curry: Underrated" Out Now

A new documentary, Stephen Curry, Steph Curry underrated provides an inside look at how the basketball legend was shaped by his upbringing, West Coast as c spoke with Curry and the film's producer, the temptation for me at that time was I think about what I couldn't do, but I knew I could shoot that was part of what I brought to the team before he was considered one of the greatest shooters in basketball history. Stephen Curry was overlooked for being undersized. The documentary Stephen Curry underrated, explores his rise from college basketball player to four time NBA champion. It is so inspirational and I think one of the reasons is because you go through these challenges like rejection and you don't shy away from that transparency. How important was that to you? When telling your story, we live in a, in an age of obviously what social media has done in terms of, you know, painting a picture that might not seem real or relatable or attainable. How quickly people will need that feedback loop of success. I feel like this is a cool uh vantage point in terms of what people know of me now to maybe the story or the part of me that they don't know and trying to connect those dots. It's what's needed right now. I'm not saying just because I need my story told, but I feel like it's an ability to kind of separate the finish polish product of what people see or have seen over the course of these last couple of years and what my NBA journey was to know, like I started from somewhere, you know, that adopted an underrated mindset and needed people to, you know, support me and, and lift me up and build me up along the way and, and how I dealt with, you know, the, the extreme lows and the failures and the losses and try to, you know, bottle that up into, into fuel to, to keep going to develop my work ethic and persevere in the documentary, you seem to really like bathe in criticism is that how you confront feedback and if so how do you stay well and maintain your mental health? Yeah, I mean, there's, there's a balance to it of accepting the things that you can't control music. That's what people say about you or think about you, you know, acknowledging it as, as either fuels or even a form of entertainment or uh a way to kind of separate the positive self talk that you uh have been try to develop over the years. It, it's hard, it's, it's more for me, less of like having that chip on your shoulder, like I have to prove everybody wrong. But using that as a form of making sure I can prove myself right. And there's a, there's a subtle difference for me just in terms of um of what motivates me, what inspires me. And that's being very intentional and active in that process is, is make sure I understand that I don't get too wrapped up or too obsessed over the the criticism so that, you know, I can to your point stay um mentally healthy, mentally strong, mentally adaptable to what life throws at you. Ryan Kugler served as a producer on underrated and says that while Curry has revolutionized the game, his story goes beyond basketball. Is there something that you learned in the process of this project that you were like? OK, this is the reason why Stephen Curry is where he is today. This film is about uh uh the, the power of, of, of family, of community um of mentorship. But, but more than anything is, it's a film about the, the power that comes with being seen. So I think his secret sauce is that it is understanding who to surround himself with, uh who, who to listen to who, who, who's wires to give value.
