And we've been closely following the migrant controversy here in the US. Thousands have already been sent to a number of us cities. New York City is paying to house its newly arrived migrants in hotel rooms. Ari Mardi has a closer look at one of these hotels. The Holiday Inn Financial District is just one of the hotels that the city is using to house migrants. Recently 500 to 600 migrants are arriving in New York City daily and the city is renting out hotels as emergency shelter. This Holiday Inn was about to go bust when Mayor Adams offered to book the entire hotel to house 15,000 migrants. Over the next 15 months, the city is paying about 100 at $90 a night. Up from the usual 110 a night, the hotel charges hotels all over the city are making deals like this to house migrants but not without consequence. City services like meals for senior citizens are being cut to foot the bill. New York City Comptroller, Brad Lander says the response has been so emergency focused that not enough resources are going into helping the migrants find work and long term shelter. For the past year, the city of New York has spent tremendous resources, energy and dollars helping asylum seekers get into shelter. And we have spent almost nothing helping folks get out and onto their feet. It is well past time we got started, the city has also said they have received proposals from bad actor landlords looking to price gouge and take advantage of the situation. They say they're reviewing each proposal carefully. Ashley Masar Chet news.
