Following the NCAA's rule change allowing college athletes to earn money on their name, image, or likeness (NIL), University of Miami quarterback D'Eriq King signed a deal, not with an NFL team, but with the NHL's Florida Panthers. The contract is the first of its kind for a collegiate athlete, and the Panthers' chief strategy officer Sam Doerr joined Cheddar to discuss the partnership. "[There are] a wide range of different things D'Eriq will be involved with, but I think the biggest thing for us is reaching a new audience that, potentially, we weren't reaching before," said Doerr.
