Not Paying Colonial Pipeline Ransom Could Have Made Things Worse, Says Cybersecurity Expert

Following the Colonial Pipeline hack, the Justice Department was able to recover nearly all of the bitcoin used to pay the Darkside hacker group in the attack. However, there are questions being raised about whether or not companies, and potentially governments, should give in to ransom demands from such groups. Jamil Jaffer, senior vice president of IronNet Cybersecurity, joined Cheddar to offer his opinion on the matter stating that if Colonial Pipeline CEO Joseph Blount had not paid the ransom, the fallout from the attack could have been much worse.
