And a New York City woman was hospitalized yesterday after she was bitten by a shark, the 50 year old who was swimming at New York City's Rockaway Beach yesterday evening when the attack occurred. While according to the city's parks department, she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The New York police and fire department cleared the beach and searched the area but they didn't see any sharks. Rockaway Beach will be closed for swimming and surfing today. And at least five other shark bites have been reported in New York this summer. In 2022 there were eight shark bites all non fatal.
